The North and South Nodes of the Moon

What are they?
The Sun and planets do not circle willy-nilly around the Earth. Instead, their apparent path around us inscribes a circle in the skies. This disk-shaped band of the sky is called the ecliptic.
Astrology is geocentric, meaning that even though we realize the Sun does not orbit the Earth, the Earth is at the center of the astrological chart. Thus, Earth is our frame of reference.
The Moon’s orbit around the Earth is not the same as the ecliptic. You could visualize them as two giant hula hoops, one inside the other, held at an angle. The Moon’s orbit crosses the Ecliptic in two places— these are called the Moon’s Nodes.
The North Node is where the Moon crosses the ecliptic going toward the northern hemisphere, and the South Node is where she crosses the ecliptic headed south. The North Node and the South Node are always directly opposite one another in the sky.
The Moon’s Nodes nearly always move in retrograde, meaning they travel backwards through the Zodiac. They make a complete circle through the 12 signs every 18 years.
When the New Moons and Full Moons happen near the Moon’s Nodes, eclipses happen. That is because the Earth, Sun, and Moon are lined up so precisely that a shadow is cast.
What do they mean?
In a karmic sense, the Moon’s Nodes represent lessons to be learned in this Earthly incarnation. These lessons almost always have to do with the way we connect with others. That’s why the Nodes are associated with patterns of relating, and the wisdom to be found within them is often the key to recognizing and healing patterns of relating which stand in the way of our happiness.
The Nodes are a pair. The North Node is always directly opposite the South Node. If you want to really understand them, it’s wise to study the 12 signs as pairs of opposites— Aries/Libra, Taurus/Scorpio, and so on. Like the yin/yang symbol, each sign contains the shadow of its opposite. For example, every Aries has a secret wish to be loved and accepted, and every Libra has a “gotta be me” side (or an angry side) that comes out no matter how nice she tries to be.
The South Node represents habit patterns from childhood or from past lives. These are comfortable patterns, but they often get in the way of you having the kinds of connections you want with other people. These are especially powerful if you have a planet conjunct the South Node in your chart.
The sign and house placement of the South Node tells where you have a tendency to totally overdo things. There is a longing there, a craving that is very strong. The nature of this longing is shown by the sign of the South Node. For example, in Taurus, the craving is for material security. In Leo, for recognition. In Gemini, for information.
The sign and house of the North Node represent circumstances and activities that usually feel unfamiliar. It’s the “secret shadow” of the South Node sign, and it’s the key to getting that craving met. That’s why the North node reveals an area of massive growth potential in your life. It’s the key to getting energy flowing.
Sometimes in the astrological literature, you will see interpretations that color the North Node as all positive, and the South Node as all negative. Sometimes they suggest that you should strive to move “toward” the North Node and shun the qualities represented by the sign of the South Node. (As if that were possible.) I do not think this is a constructive way to look at it. Your South Node indicates an area of longing, but also of massive talent and gifts. The trick is channeling those gifts properly.
Think of the North Node as the head, and the South Node as the stomach. The stomach has the hunger, but the head has the mouth. So you fulfill the desires of the South Node through the energy of the North Node.
North Node in
Aries, South Node in Libra:
North Node in Aries represents a karmic drive to embrace your identity, to make your own decisions and live your own life. The South Node in Libra represents a longing for relationship. The longing is so strong and intense, that you often will try to make the connection by doing the Libra thing, trying to be the person you think your partner wants. This never works. You will find fulfilling relationships only when you embrace your own desires and wants (Aries), take the risk of being your own person, following your impulses. Only then can the right relationship appear.
North Node in
Taurus, South Node in Scorpio:
North Node in Taurus represents a need to get in touch with your own self-worth, your values & awareness of comfort zones, what feels good, what doesn’t, relying on your own talents and resourcefulness (Taurus). The South Node in Scorpio represents a longing for close bonding and mutual empowerment with another person. The old pattern is to attempt to do this by buying into another person’s system of values and priorities (Scorpio). Your longing for a fulfilling intimate relationship will only be satisfied when you focus on your own strength, your own values, your own priorities. When you do so, the right people will appear to support your goals.
North Node in
Gemini, South Node in Sagittarius
If your North Node is in Gemini, you are like a butterfly, here to sample many flowers and connect with people and things. The South Node in Sagittarius represents a longing to have all the answers, sharing truth and wisdom, “being right.” If you don’t do the Gemini part and listen to what others are saying, your Sagittarian optimism can get out of hand, and you assume they know what you know. It’s true that you have great wisdom, but you mess up when you act without thinking things through, and dismiss other people’s ideas without hearing them out. You are able to share your wisdom and connect deeply with others when you truly listen to them, helping them through the “nitty gritty” aspects of life, and allowing them to help you.
North Node in
Cancer, South Node in Capricorn
The South Node in Capricorn represents a strong drive to succeed. You mess up when you measure success by the “outward” symbols of success or achievement of a position in society (i.e. clothing, material status, titles, awards, the “right” friends, etc.). To gain these things, you may try to “cut off” or ignore the feeling side of things, yours and others’. Your North Node in Cancer shows that the true measure of your success is emotional fulfillment— if you aren’t feeling safe and content on the inside, you haven’t “made it.” This does not deny you success in your career, but it does mean that you find satisfaction in life only when you use your strong work ethic and management skill in a way that is emotionally suited to you, and responsive to others.
North Node in
Leo, South Node in Aquarius
The South Node in Aquarius represents a strong urge to belong in a group. Your old pattern is to make your way by “fitting in,” letting go of your ego to promote a cause, and letting the energy of a group carry you. You try and find this sense of belonging by remaining a spectator in life rather than a participant. This doesn’t work, because Leo is an extremely creative sign, and to try to “blend in” cuts off a very real part of you that longs for expression. You find your true sense of belonging when you let your light shine, take the risk of standing out. Then you magnetically attract the right group of friends to you.
North Node in
Virgo, South Node in Pisces
The South Node in Pisces represents an urge for immersion in spiritual oneness. You may try to do this by escaping from the world through addiction or other means, withdrawal from involvement with others, giving up, or choosing not to deal with the daily grind. You have a strong psychic and spiritual power. However, this power only works for you when you embrace the lesson of Virgo, serving yourself and others through active involvement with others, attending to the nitty-gritty details of life. “Spirit helps those who help themselves” is a good mantra for you. i.e., you have to clean up your own messes in life, nobody’s going to do it for you.
North Node in
Libra, South Node in Aries
The South Node in Aries represents a competitive urge— you want to win. You may try to do this by being defensive, combative, and competitive with others. However, you only win big when you cooperate in mutually beneficial partnerships, openly share your feelings and intentions, listen to and accept the help of others. You have good relationship karma— involve others in your decisions, and give of yourself, share your talents and abilities with others. You only really benefit from win/win cooperative situations, not win/lose battles.
North Node in
Scorpio, South Node in Taurus
The South Node in Taurus suggests a tendency to try to do everything yourself, your way. It can be hard to let go of possessions, for fear that you might need it someday. Following the Scorpio North Node path, sharing resources and responsibilities with other people, really opens up your world. It involves letting go and taking the risk of trusting and depending on another. Ironically, you only find the stability you want through letting others help you in their own way. The rewards are well worth the price.
North Node in
Sagittarius, South Node in Gemini
The South Node in Gemini indicates that you can really “overthink” decisions, constantly second-guessing yourself. You got so good at seeing other people’s points of view, that you lost touch with your own. Your Sagittarius North Node indicates that the greatest rewards for you are in trusting your intuition, and being open and honest about yourself and what you want. Overthinking is problematic for you because you can never have enough information to satisfy your mind. You second-guess yourself and become confused, making it very difficult to make decisions you truly trust. Visualizing the outcome, rather than relying on factual, logical information, works much better for you. You have the gift of manifestation— your beliefs create your reality. Indulging in gossip drains your energy— don’t do it.
North Node in
Capricorn, South Node in Cancer
The South Node in Cancer indicates an intense desire to care for people. However, overconcern with other people’s emotional well-being may be a sign of your fear of taking charge of your own destiny. This overconcern shows itself as dwelling on the past, being afraid to come out of your shell, making other people’s feelings your problem. You are here to rediscover the thrill of achieving your goals. You need to let other people work out their own problems, and develop and cultivate your own ambition. When you do this, eventually others will come in to support you! You are a natural born leader and manager. Because you have the gift of empathy, people trust you, and you find fulfillment when you set up structures that support everyone’s well-being. Focusing on your vision for the future will help you let go of the past.
North Node in
Aquarius, South Node in Leo
With South Node in Leo, ego drives are very powerful, as the soul craves recognition and respect. Thus, at times you can be dominating, demanding, and willful. The North Node in Aquarius indicates that you find the respect and approval you want only when you work from a sense of equality with all creatures, inspiring rather than dominating. Because you, more than anyone, understand the value of appreciation, you are a natural born appreciator of others and can motivate others to achieve their best, especially when you work together for a common cause. Being involved in groups and humanitarian causes is very good for you.
North Node in
Pisces, South Node in Virgo
The South Node in Virgo suggests an innate practicality and sense of order, but also a sense of panic an anxiety when things do not go as planned. Therefore, you may burden yourself and others with rigid expectations of proper behavior or “perfect” situations. The North Node in Pisces represents this lifetime’s mission: let go of worry and work on developing a sense of the connectedness of everyone and everything. Your longing for order and perfection is satisfied only through the realization that everything is in divine order, even if our limited human minds perceive only chaos.
My Nodes are retrograde, what does that mean?
Nothing. The Nodes are nearly always retrograde. Neither is it significant if they are direct (not retrograde) in your chart— which only happens if you use the True Node. The change in direction is due to an insignificant “wobble” or vibration in the Node’s path. It’s not the same as the process by which the planets change direction. If you use the Mean Node measurement, which averages out the Node’s position over time, it is always retrograde.
Visit this page for an animated diagram showing how planetary retrogrades work.

I had never knew about the existance of north/south nodes until I had my natal chart read by you. I enjoyed this article and am reading Jan Spiller's book. I find the north/south nodes explain many things that I couldn't understand, like why am always late, for example. What has been the biggest help is finding what house the north node falls in;it helps in working out a practical solution (my north node in Scorpio falls in Virgo-can you tell?!) Is it possible for a layperson to find the house in someones chart?3 · Molly · 6 May 2005
Hi Karol-- Thanks for your note. All you need to do is get a chart calculated for the person in question. Just go to www.astro.com. If ou need help, check out the tutorial. The tutorial also has info about each of the houses.Keep in mind that the house cusps are based on the rotation of the earth, thus they move very quickly in time. To be sure of the house cusps, you must have an accurate time of birth (within 10 minutes or so).

Hey Molly!,I just want to thank you for the fantastic article, which I had to hunt for a little bit. Could it maybe be more accessible?, as it does seem (ime; in my experience) to be an important part of chart interpretation.
Thanks,

Is the true node the same as the north node?6 · Sunshine · 26 August 2005
Is there a way to find out what effect the north node for each house effects you, versus the sign?7 · Molly · 26 August 2005
Hi Sunshine-- there's a quick and dirty way that is not exactly explained, but is implied in Jan Spillers' book, Astrology for the Soul. You use what are called natural rulerships for houses, i.e. Aries for first house, Taurus for second house, Gemini for third house and so on. Then just read the interpretation for the sign.

Hi! I was born on May 17, 1991 @ 8:48am. I have a Capricorn north node opposed my Moon in Cancer, and my south node conjunct my Cancer Moon. I have a book called “Your Intuitive Moon”. I have done a bit of reading on Lunar Nodes, and it says something about the Lunar Nodes in relation to past lives and karma. If that's actually the case, then exactly how does my Lunar Axis relate to my past life?-Sarah10 · Molly · 3 October 2005
Hi Sarah-- If you desire more information that what I've written here, I suggest you check out Jan Spiller's book (link above). She has 40 or 50 pages on each placement that explains a lot about how the Nodes relate to past lives.Best,

I was a little confused about the whole thing, I find them all really interesting but does this have to do with What moon you have in your sign? Or is it simple just picking your sun sign out of this? My sun sign is Virgo but my moon is in Sagittarius..which one do I read here?
17 · Molly · 19 January 2006
Evdokya,
It's not the Sun or the Moon. It's the Moon's Node.
Go get your chart and read the sign of the North Node.

Dear Molly,
I have north node Scorpio in 9th. I just had a traumatic relationship with a north node Taurus (his sun was in Scorpio). In our composite chart our nodes were only 1 degree apart and in 8th house. I was very shaken by it all. His life appears to have changed and become much more conventional and settled. What was going on?!
thanks
19 · Lilly Tilly · 9 May 2006
My Capricorn North Node is in House 4 (Natural House of Cancer, opp sign of Cap) and obviously the same goes for South Node. There is an astrology writer who does Nodes by Sign and House…but i find, he often seriously contradicts himself, leaving me more confused that when i started learning Nodes! This is like being North Node in Capricorn, AND in Cancer at the same time!
Is there any good information out there about Nodes in Signs AND Houses? ps… Molly, i loved the descriptions you gave, they are so easy to grasp! Thankyou!
20 · Molly · 9 May 2006
Hi Lilly—
I see that happening a lot.. and it used to confuse me until I read Jan Spiller’s book on the Nodes. Even though the sign/house energies are opposite, the messages are complimentary rather than contradictory. And that resonates deeply.
I think it’s about finding the balance. Realizing you have the potential to overdo the downside of both Cancer and Cap, and also to live up to the fullest potential of those signs.
21 · Venussquare · 11 May 2006
That makes a lot of sense, Molly. Except… I’m still having a hard time understanding the Virgo/Pisces North Node energy. They really seem very contradictory to me: one is so critical and the other so uncritical. Maybe it’s the difference between being discerning and being judgmental? Or going deep but in different ways? I’ll have to read Spiller’s book, I guess.
22 · Molly · 11 May 2006
Yes, do get the book, Venussquare.. you won’t regret it!
Having a Pisces vibe going north and south is about letting go of perfectionism and embracing mystery.. but without playing victim or martyr or being escapist..
Having Virgo going both ways is about staying grounded and involved in the details of life without getting into the obsessive worrywart thing, or indulging in counterproductive criticism and negativity.
23 · Venussquare · 12 May 2006
OMG. That’s so dead on, Molly. That’s my life struggle right there. I HAVE to get that book now. Thanks!
24 · Hannah · 15 May 2006
Sounds like I should get that book too…having trouble with the practical/grounded/detail-oriented “North Node in Virgo” oye…practicality! Yuuuck. Although the idea of being practical to get to express my innate spirit (S. Node in Pisces) more effectively is a nice concept.
25 · heather · 16 May 2006
my northnode is in sag, but only by 01 degree. (chart reads 05- 01.)
but that still makes my southnode in gemini, right? not taurus?
26 · Molly · 16 May 2006
Right, Heather. The Nodes are always, always, always opposite each other.

Dear Molly – I’m touring your whole site since I’m very new here… but I found this article particularly interesting (when I read… “The sign and house placement of the South Node tells where you have a tendency to totally overdo things” I had to laugh out loud.) It’s in my 7th house and resides smack in the middle of four planets, mercury, jupiter, So. Node, sun and uranus all in cancer. Oye. When I read your descriptions, how spot on you are. This is a great tool & resource.

Hello again Molly,
Still waiting for surgery, cancer? yes or no? the tests are inconclusive. Maybe September now for surgery
I love the your north node/south node interpretations; about learning, understanding oneself enough to move on, not being fearful.
My son’s previous principal has his North node in Libra conjunct my Neptune R. Saturn R. conjunction -his south node in Aries hits the mid-point of my Sun and Venus R.
To say we have affected each other very strongly would be an understatement. Issues of growth and trust and learning! Big time – even though my son is at a different school, the connection is not yet over. Still some healing and wrapping up to do.
From your interpretations I agree – I have come to know every one of my relationship fears, dreams and deepest insecurities. So I know how his nodal contacts feel to me and it is an awesome opportunity for growth. Although personally very confusing as well.
I do know he has grown and changed but I do wonder the different waya person could feel about the other individual with those planets conjuncting his nodes. . .
Thanks again for your wonderful insights,
Lenore

hey there…i’m a lover of nodal astrology but i haven’t been able to find any info on nodal retrograde periods…my north node is virgo in the 11th house, and it’s the only retrograde aspect in my chart. i’ve owned spiller’s book for years by the way, and have bought copies for many folks…i truly was changed by her writings…
can you point me in a direction for the retrograde of the nodes?
33 · Molly · 4 September 2006
Hi gkelly--
If you use the Mean node calculation (the old fashioned way), the nodes are always retrograde.
If you use the True node calculation, the nodes are almost always retrograde. Because the Moon's orbit is a bit “wobbly" and astronomers have developed very sensitive equipment that is very precise, we now have this True Node measurement which includes short periods of direct motion. For our purposes, measuring this "wobble" is not really necessary. You can use it or not, whatever feels right to you. Between Mean Node and True Node, there is no clear winner amongst astrologers.
Even when the normally retrograde True Node is direct, I don't find there's any discernable shift in its meaning. This is probably because the Nodes have no mass. They are mathematical points that mark the intersection of the Moon's orbit with the Ecliptic. They are retrograde because that's the direction they go... and when they do change direction, it's for a different reason, by a different mechanism than when the planets do.

Hello everyone
This is very interesting, I'm glad I found this
I would really like to now if the nodes aspects are important
For example my NN (Taurus house 10, direct motion ) is in opposition with Pluto, square Jupiter, inconjunction mercury, semisquare moon and semisextil MC
This means that I have a hard karma? I will have many changeless in accomplishing my karma?
Thank you in advance

Hi,
What does it mean when my progressed moon is transiting my south node in Taurus in the 4th house?
My north node is conjunct Saturn in the 10th near the midheaven so my progressed moon is also opposite these things.
Thanks, Lynda

Hello Molly. I just discovered your site. I really hope you can help me with this. I just had a few questions regarding my planetary positions. I’m aware that the sun is the most important factor in a chart, followed by the moon. Well my sun is Scorpio, my moon is in Gemini, and Aries is rising. I know that Scorpio is a strong sign, but I wanted to know how it is when it is combined with a Gemini moon? Does it make me less Scorpio-like or weaker than a typical Scorp? I know of people that have Scorpio rising and/or moon in Scorpio as well as the sun and I was curious if this makes them a stronger Scorpio than say someone with just the sun in Scorpio. My sun is conjunct Saturn is Scorpio and I have Pluto and the South Node in Scorpio, although there is no conjunction between Pluto, the sun and south node. Also my Mars is square Pluto, Ascendant is opposite Pluto, and my mercury and Uranus are both in the 8th house. (I figured I add these because they have Scorpio traits). I also read that the moon is what we strongly identified with when we were children, but anyone can tell you that I did not behave like a Gemini at all. I was very much a Scorpio! I wonder if this is because of my sun-Saturn connection, south node position, or the fact that in the end, Scorpio is just a strong, unwavering sign. I also would like to know if the sun-Saturn aspect restrains my Scorpio traits. If so I have 4 planets in Sagittarius that may add some expansion to my chart: Mercury, Venus, Uranus and Neptune. I may have forgotten something, but the main point I would like to know is what kind of a Scorpio am I?
Thanks,
RJ

Hi, Molly! I really have enjoyed reading about nodes since I have been studying them for the past few weeks. One of the things that I have not read about is when transiting Pluto squares natal nodes. I think I am about to lose my mind getting some answers that will console me during an “astro-crisis” I am currently trying to survive. Not only do I have Pluto in 12th square to my natal 3rd house north node Pisces/9th house south node in Virgo conjunct Saturn—- transiting Saturn is in my 8th house squaring my sun, venus and mercury in 10th house. Eeeeks! With a Capricorn ascendent, this Scorpio, who can handle most situations is about to lose it! Seeking solace in my Pisces 3rd house north node through spirituality and reminding myself of Divine Order is the only thing that is keeping me sane right now, but my anxiety level is on red alert. Any ideas for maintaining composure when the world feels like it’s ending?

Hey Cindi,
I’m not Molly but I couldn’t resist responding because your lessons in this life are my ‘old hat’, so I find it fascinating. My South Node is in the 3rd House in Pisces. Perhaps you could teach me something with your South Node in Virgo in the 9th house placement—wow!
Yours Truly,
Hannah
p.s. just a tip since my “natural” mode is to be intuitive and ‘let things happen’ (pisces south node) and communicate with my friends and neighbors—my advice to you as one who has these things as lessons now is to a.) connect with others in casual ways—get out, get involved (very ‘mercurial’), get opinions,
b) not get caught up in the details so you can see the big picture (i.e. virgo) and c) have faith. (Pisces)
:)

p.s. I’m also going through a pluto square (to my moon) in Pisces
41 · cindi · 25 September 2006
Thanks, Hannah! I need to be constantly reminded right now that the answer lies in “letting go and letting God”, not trying to compulsively find answers from outside of myself (in books, etc per my 9th house south node that has Saturn compounding the eternal rut I need to dig out of). I hope it is possible to overcome the stranglehold that Saturn puts on the south node compulsion to revert to the safety that has been learned in past lives. It sounds like you need to “trust your gut” (3rd house south node) to find what area that you should seek knowledge in and go for it…at least you have developed the intuition to follow your hunches productively, now all that is required is the elbow grease of paying the dues required to get outside knowledge (9th house north node) and then you will be set. If you get the training in something you are naturally drawn to, getting the outside training should be a breeze and fun to boot. It took me a long time to figure out that I wanted to be a counselor, (north node in Pisces) because I did not develop my intuitive skills, but once I eventually did, I was able to excel in the Masters program using my already developed North Node skills of the 9th house. Good luck! And thanks for your supportive feedback.

I have been studying astrology for almost 30 years as a hobby. I find it fascinating and revealing about human nature. The lunar nodes have been a great source of confusion for me because I have been unable to relate to much of the information concerning them in Jan Spiller’s book. According to my chart, I am South Node – Aries, North Node – Libra. I honestly relate more to the opposite chart placement, ie North Node – Aries, South Node – Libra…as described in her book…because it hasn’t been until I reached my 40’s that I was able to allow myself to compete in any way…mostly to ensure I am taken care of, (and by the way, I hate competition), to speak my opinions without fear or judgement (I used to be a great listener until I listened so much nobody wanted to hear me speak), to be me no holds barred. I was very suppressed as a child, and it took a long time to slowly work towards becoming an individual. I am very proud of that. I respect the lessons of Libra, and admit I have some things to learn there…but it seems to me there are lessons from both nodes that I can learn and some I can teach. I can relate to the idea of taking our nodes and combining the lessons from each to expand our growth in the now. That makes more sense to me. The polar opposite of past and present doesn’t resonate with me. Any thoughts?
44 · Hannah Celeste Slattery-Quintanilla · 5 October 2006
That’s intereting, Michelle. What house is your True Node in? I mean, for instance—some people have North Node in Libra and North Node in Aries, so the energies can be confusing or seem contradictory. There may also be some hard aspects to your node, or the rest of your chart may play a factor. Of course, environment does make a big difference, too.
Anyway…was just curious. :)
45 · Molly · 5 October 2006
Hannah, your comment is pretty confusing. But you are correct that there may be other things going on in the chart that would color things.
Michelle, there may be a few things going on here—The first thing I would look at is the placement and condition of Mars. I have seen a sort of “implosion” of energy when Mars is retrograde, or in aspect with Neptune or Pluto. But one would have to really get into your chart to suss it out.
Another possibility is that you are extremely competitive, but in a way that you don’t realize. No offense, I don’t know you.. but I have seen such a thing happen before.

Oops…
Sorry. I guess my comment was worded poorly. I was thinking about those folks who have their true node in the opposite sign as the house it falls in (if I’m wording this correctly, even). For instance a person with North Node in Pisces in the 6th house.
I just remember you commenting on that one time:
”#

Thanks for your comments. Is the True Node different? I am not familiar with it if it is different than the North Node and South Node. I have Cancer as an Ascendant, North Node in Libra, South Node in Aries, and Moon, Venus, and Mars in Leo….Sun in Gemini. The funny thing is I have always had a hard time being in the spotlight contrary to what my chart says. I have tried to embrace it when it occurs, but it is not easy for me. Over the last few days, I have found the book, The Secret Language of Destiny, by Gary Goldschneider that seems to communicate my nodes position in a way in which I can understand it. I would like to understand them better, however, so I can weigh my position on my path.

You can find the location of your nodes if you have your chart calculated. You can do this online. I have a step by step tutorial here.

My love has sun and venus in Virgo conjunct each other and his south node. What does this mean?
Both sun and venus are opposing North node also.
My Virgo moon is conjunct his sun and venus but not his nodes since their is a four degree distance.

Thanks for the articles, I only recently received the calling of my true node in leo, and what you wrote makes perfect sense to me, I have been holding back my true shine for years and that was worsened since I met my husband whose sun conjuncts my south node. Spot on!

Hi Molly,
I see from your site that you’ve interpreted NNode in Virgo as “an urge for immersion in spiritual oneness.” I’ve got NNode in Virgo conj Eros AND Pluto in the 9th house. Would this be transformation through purely ideallistic means of spiritual love? The only harsh aspect between my Pluto/Eros/Nnode is it squares my Sun in the 12th house in Sag. However, Pluto/NNode/Eros also trines my Jupiter/Venus/Saturn stellium in the 1st house (Capr), which I think makes it difficult to balance my needs with my partners needs. My first husband was an addict with an extremely high libido and my current partner is totally dependable, honest, but asexual? What is going on here? Have you any insight on this combination that you’d like to share? THANKS JustAnotherGirl

JAG, you need to finish reading my piece on NN in Virgo. You got through one line and ran with it. NN in Virgo is about being grounded and practical.

Curious I haven’t come across this site before. I really appreciate the way you explain things very clearly. I have a question regarding my nn falling less than half a degree before my house 5th house cusp in Capricorn. Which has priority since the nn is retrograde mind you the cusps are moving retrograde too and much quicker. Hmm maybe I just answered my own question.
I have a veritable plethora of these planets on cusps. Sun con.MC, Plu® con.2nd, neptune®con.IC, Jup(S)con,6th, and Mars con.Dec. Can you advise a good book or general rule of thumb I should follow.
Thanks in advance

3) my north node is conjunct her south node in aquarius and vice versa…
is this significant? I feel as very close to her although its very early in the relationship!

61 · Paul · 3 December 2007
Hi Guys,
I’m also finding this slightly confusing.
My north node is in Taurus. Which makes my south node in Scorpio.
Am I right in saying, that to fulfil Karmic lessons etc I need to leave my Scorpio ‘comfort zone’?
My 7th house is in Taurus, my 1st in Scorpio. Only problem is that my ascendant obviously in Scorpio, and I have 3 planets and Chiron in 8th house, namely, Mars, Mercury and Sun, my 8th house being in Gemini.
How can I be less ‘Scorpio-like’ when I’ve such a Scorpio influence? And is that what this article is saying? I’m a bit confused on this and appreciate any help from anyone.
I’m born 08th June 1985 in Dublin, Ireland, if that helps. I basically need to know what the Nodes mean and what their relation are to me and what I can learn from them.
Thanks in advance.
:)

Hi Molly-
Thanks for the nice explanations. Do you know of a resource that explains the significance of different planetary conjunctions to the North and South Nodes? My chart is so full of them.
Thanks!
63 · Sunny · 2 January 2008
Hi Molly: I found this article while searching for information on karma and the nodes. I have north node in 1st house/sagittarius conjunct venus and moon. I’ve repeatedly had problems with relationships with my sister (Scorpio) and mother (Gemini) due to their incessant dependence on me. About 2 years ago, I began breaking free and trying to find myself, but I find they still have a tremendous amount of influence over me. My new year’s resolution is to stand stronger against them and basically fight to “save myself”. Can you give me some insight into the meaning of these aspects – sag rising: 7 degrees; venus 14; NN 18; moon 27 — date of birth 11/17/55. Sometimes I think my sister was a boyfriend in a past life. Is there anyway to tell that from the birthchart? Thanks for you input. Love…
64 · Molly · 2 January 2008
Hi Sunny— I don’t know how to read past relationships in the chart, to be honest. When I’m reading aspects to the nodes, I tend to turn to Jan Spiller’s book, Spiritual Astrology for ideas. I really don’t feel right about trying to interpret that aspect without the rest of the chart. But usually old karmic patterns show up around the south node, not the north. I would be looking for other aspects. A Sag venus/moon/node doesn’t seem strong enough to, by itself, account for a lifelong codependent family pattern.
I’ll be happy to look into it for you, but not here in the comments. Feel free to contact me for a reading. Consultations page

Hi,
I like what this article says especially concerning the south node. A lot of things that i have read say that South is either unfortunate, or karmically bad. Looking at some charts and there are a few great examples, the south doesn´t seem worse or better than the north. In fact the south appears to have massive potential. But I agree that the North is the KEY to fulfilling the South.
Sir Winston Churchill had Jupiter in Libra conjunct the South Node. In order to bring peace, and security, (the Jupiter Libra) he had to fight (North in Aires.) But yes, in accordance with what you have stated, the south in some ways shows up as a need, in my example it was a need for peace. The Libran Jupiter South node might also signify what Churchill already had -an alliance (libra) with a great nation (Jupiter) which allowed him to save his nation´s independence (aries). In that interpretation, the north node was the goal, and the thing achieved.
I am still not completely clear on the significance of the nodes. South node as a point of suffering, is something that i have read also and which does, seem to ring true. But on the other hand, it is definitely not negated or diminished, if anything there is an abundance, a talent, or something positive which is definitely to be associated with the South Node.

Thanks for your comment, Den. Churchill is a great example.

I see that this node thing shows why I am the way that I am. My south node in Aries form a fire grand trine with my Venus in Sagittarius and my Mars in Leo. Being at or near the top of anything that I get into is a super strong pull. At the same time, The north node in Libra makes a nice sextal to the Venus and Mars. Mars is also getting good aspects from Neptune and Pluto. This can be a very powerful force. I have always known that the potencial power of my personality is a little beyond what I understand. I am getting better at balencing all these powers out. Using astrology with metaphisics is a great way to do it. Using my Sun Conjunked Neptune spiritual powers is a help.

I’m an oct 23 sun in scorpio, w/ leo rising I have been ripped off astrologically when it comes to some aspects with my moon- I have moon in capricorn AND my moon is in opposition to my north node(also have venus conjunct saturn, moon square mercury, and both sun and mars conjunct to pluto). So does this basically spell adversity and constant fighting with everyone else and with all life situations in general?- that’s all I’ve become after having everything has constantly been against me all the time- all that life has taught me is: that its as tough as trying to eat iron, to fight on my own and not to rely on anyone else (I used to be very trusting when I was younger)- in a way its hardened me to become determined, self-reliant, painfully stubborn and persistent (I can never give up anything I start until its done- regardless of how long it takes me or how much I suffer) and courageous but also bitter and angry.

I want to add something about Churchill. When World War II started, he had of course the reversed nodal return (with 10 orb this started already around May 1939 when the transiting nodes conjunct his neptune already, which is of course part of his natal nodes-configuration). The transiting nodes stayed in Aries/Libra until May ’41, one month before Hitler’s Soviet invasion. For Churchill and England this was the most difficult time as he was the only one to keep resistance against Germany, France was beaten in ’40 en America was still ‘far away’ and Germany had most of Europe, including several alliances. With Hitler’s invasion in Soviet Union, of course there was the chance for an alliance with the Soviet Union. The transiting south node in aries helped in Churchill’s resistence to compromise with Nazi-Germany despite of all the peace offers made by Germany until July ‘40.

Thisguy… Moon conjunct SN is a powerful longing for others to comfort, support and nurture you. This comes through loud and clear in your post. When you let go of that “what about me” thing and turn the energy around and use your considerable intuitive gifts to nourish and support others, then you get the support you want.

Hi Molly, I hope to receive an answer to this. The discovery of astrology has been my salvation and curse at the same time. I have understood why I am the way I am (and believe me, you don’t wanna know how I am) by learning to decipher my chart but I haven’t learned how to bring relief to myself. Is it even possible to correct, modify or minimize certain bad aspects one has in the chart?
As I started learning about the nodes, I didn’t understand them much at first. What I know is that my nodes leo/aquarius square my afflicted moon in scorpio (which squares almost exactly my mars in aquarius).
On top of that, my sun in Leo is widely conjunct my south node (and very widely square my moon, too).
Now, for the first time in my life, after reading your web page, I made sense of the nodes in the way you explained them. One is the urge, the opposite gives indications on how to fulfill that urge.
My urge is exactly what you said it was: recognition/Leo. I think this urge is ironically magnified by the presence of the sun even more due to the closeness of my sun to the Midheaven. I completely IDENTIFY my whole conscious self with that sense of urge for recognition, it’s not just a generic feeling. Having said this, what do you make of the Moon stuck in the middle, in an uncooperative relationship to the nodes? I fear that what it means is that recognition I crave will never come… Can a couple of bad aspects be responsible for an overwhelming emotional suffering and lack of fulfillment I feel?
I was born on July 31 1971 in Bari, Italy at 12:30 pm. Thank you very much just for reading this. Aldo
76 · Molly · 17 December 2008
Hi Aldo—
South Node people have a lot of energy that they have to learn to use in the service of others. So with SN in Leo conjunct Sun and square Moon, you need to stop being so needy and start recognizing and shining a light on the gifts of others. Be the audience rather than the performer, the nurturer rather than the needer. It is easier said than done, so give yourself plenty of time. Once you get that going, the energy feeds back and you get the recognition you desire.
77 · wil · 27 December 2008
Can you please comment on another understanding of what the moon node means in one’s biography. This is what I had learned from a respected source some years ago, and only now find a different explanation by reading your excellent website. The idea I have lived with for years is that around 18.6 years after one’s birthdate (and repeated on multiples of that date) there is a real opportunity to remind / refresh oneself on what one’s pre-birth intentions were before this incarnation. Reflecting on events in my own life (2 returns of this date by now and approaching the third), and of what has happened in several young peoples’ life around that time, indicate to me that indeed there is an opportunity to reconnect to an intention at these ‘gateways’. Lifechanging experiences happen around those dates. What would you say to this?
78 · Molly · 29 December 2008
Hi Wil— you’re describing the transiting Nodes, specifically the return. This page is about the Nodes in the natal chart.
79 · bren · 14 January 2009
I have been with this person for almost 2 years now. After looking at our comparison charts, his node is conjunct my south node and his south node is conjunct my north node. Progressing the chart in years via secondary progression, this double conjunction lasts for as long as I am due to live (another 50-60years and then some). Would this make for a good marriage? I can give date/time of birth if you need it.
80 · stephanie · 1 February 2009
My question, rather, is like the one above. I have a boyfriend I have been seriously dating for almost two years and have been asking myself if marriage is the next step. My sun sign is leo, my north node is taurus and south node is scorpio. His sun sign is libra and north node is scoprio and south node is taurus. I was curious after finding out that our nodes are opposite just what exactly it means as far as our compatibility long term.
81 · Molly · 5 February 2009
Y’all… compatibility is not really a Node thing. Sure, the Nodes play a part, but it really comes down to the personal planets and the complex interplay between your two charts. So you can’t just cough up your nodes and expect me to be able to tell you anything.
82 · Blue Eagle · 14 March 2009
Oh, My—Molly,
Thanks so much for your article on North Node in Aquarius (house 7). My sun and Mercury are both in Aquarius (house 8) so it has been easy for me to get “it”. But one other source confused me so, I thought that I needed to totally forget about myself and spend ALL my energy on others. Then I would go into resentment because my personal life would be stagnant while the other (whether it is a movement, organization, or person) progressed and grew. I left myself out of the equation totally. But now I see SN in Leo (house 1)in a different light. All I needed to do was change my attitude, I’m not better than anyone just because I have this talent (Leo) or skill. We’re all equal with different skills and abilities, and if I can help support someone in their skills or goals, then I too will grow. But now I have to create a balance so that I too will grow and benefit, not just internally but externally (financially, appreciation, increase in personal value) too.
Thanks, Molly

My daughter and I both have North Node in Pisces and are conjunct within 1 degree of each other. Her Ascendant is the same as my Sun sign, and her Moon is the same as my Ascendant. We have always had a relationship that feels much different than that of simply mother/daughter, but something deeper. I realize we are connected in a karmic sense and our missions in life must be quite similar. Could you explain this a little more? I have not been able to fully understand this. Thanks! I enjoyed your article!
84 · Molly · 20 March 2009
Carol, these are all very strong connections. The Nodes by themselves are not all that connective in my opinion, other than a feeling of being on the same track. But the ascendant connections would suggest similar personality traits and ways of understanding & relating to the world. Nice to have a friend like that in the world. :) How fortunate for the both of you.

Gayle- I realize you wrote that question ages ago, but I had a relationship with a situation just like this one.
I have Aries in Venus, South Node & Ascendant.
She had Aries in her Sun, Jupiter and North Node and She had her Mars in Taurus conjunct my Jupiter.
So, a lot of Aries between us. Our North Nodes were Opposite.
When we first got together it was everything I always wanted. We were drawn to each other, it was beautiful- at first. The relationship descended from their. I won’t go into the nitty-gritty details, but let’s just say it was very life changing in several ways. Many of them not desirable, but also some that I would never change.
My advice? Stay the hell away from that aspect, LOL!

My North Node is Sag, South is Gemini. I can completely agree and back up what you said about these nodes. I’ve gotten myself into so much trouble through gossiping, so I’ve stopped and I feel very good about it. Yes I have those little voices in the back of my head which tell me to choose one thing and I pick something else, then I kick myself because the little voices were right and I was wrong!
Yes, as soon as I start thinking about a problem I over complicate it and just get more and more confused.
THANK YOU! Most of what you said I had figured out for myself but it’s just so nice to be reassured!

well.. this is eerie.. i saw Gayle’s question and wondered why no one answered it..
this is a different Caleb. i just ended a 1 month super intense VenusRx relationship with a girl who’s Node is exactly opposite mine within less than 1° and it was the best and worst ever. in addition, her Sun conjunct my Kairon and she had Sun/VenusRx on her solar return right before the relationship. i was born with VenusRx.
btw, my Nep trined her ASC by 3° and her Nep conjunct my ASC by 1°. so.. i really had no idea what to make of all this.
i knew it was karmic from the beginning, but i didn’t know if that’s something you can make work.. in addition, we both had it in the 2nd House. i’ve had 3, that i can remember, serious relationships with opposite nodes, but not with this tight of orb.
can anyone give advice on this being a good or bad thing for a long term relationship? and how about same nodes?

my north node is in scorpio in the fifth house, and when I read the meanings, it said that a north node in scorpio, I have the desire to do things on my own and the lesson is to share and allow my self to accept help from others, on the other hand, when I read the meanings of having a north node in the fifth house, it said that I have the tendency to be dependent on others, I guess both meanings are somewhat contradicting of each other, as such, I don’t understand if its ok for me to ask for help? as I have always been self reliant…

Hi. I have a Taurus sun in the 10th and my Pisces South Node in the 8th. I dated/lived with a Pisces with a North Node of Taurus, whose best friend was a Taurus and whose cousin was a Taurus. Throughout the relationship, I noticed that experiences she was having were like reenactments of my past which I shared with her. She started acting like me and sharing my stories to my friends, in a thunder stealing kind of way. However, when we argued and I reflected her anger back to her, emulating her, I seemed to pick up bad karma. We later had our son, whose North Node is also Taurus, and it seems like God made him, or he chose to, be born a week and a half late into the first degree of Capricorn with a Taurus North Node as well. It was a traumatic relationship for me, but it made me obsessed with the Nodes of the Moon. I would like to discuss this further.
Thank you.

Confusing contradicting north node in Capricorn in the 4th house?——————————————————-
Ok for a while I seemed to be mixing up the north node glyph with the south or something of tht matter. All this time I’ve thought my north node to be in the 10th house but in actuality it’s in the opposing 4th house. Either way this would mean I would have to strive towards matters pertaining to the 4th house of ‘the home/others,family, nurturing, etc’ but how do you equate that it’s in Capricorn? Wouldn’t tht mean ‘career, reputation, recognition/independence’ is what I should strive for? I just don’t see how this could manifest since by nature it’s contradictory.
My guess so far is that I aim to establish a career(capricorn) at home(4th house) having to do with counseling psychology(cancer). This is something I get also since i have mercury in Cancer so this is appealing to me. I think this is the correct path i should take but who knows?
Maybe it means I should become a home-maker and take responsibility for the home and things concerning family affairs(which is plausible since I HATE house chores and north node is what we strive for to gain satisfaction but not necessarily aspects we are comfortable dealing with).I wouldn’t mind setting up structures relating to the home thru teaching like Martha Stuart but I like counseling psych. more :)
Any suggestions of this bizarre and contradictory placement. The houses aren’t the problem it’s the signs the Nodes are in. I’d make sense if the north node were in capricorn and vice versa since capricorn is best suited to 10th house life with career etc.and cancer with the home but the switching has left me ….O.Owtf ?—————————-
you’re help is very much appreciated since I can not find any articles on contradicting houses.
100 · Molly · 29 September 2009
If you read up on them, you will see they don’t contradict. You can do both. You can be ambitious without cutting off from your feelings, and supportive without making yourself responsible for other people’s feelings.

Hi Molly,
Great interpretation that helps me a lot.
Thank you :-)
I have a difficulty to integrate the sign/house and planets. Here’s an example:
A Capricorn North Node in the 5th house.
A Cancer South Node in the 11th house conjuncts the Sun.
Now, I understand the South Node by sign and house as very emotional and not very bold in a social and creative way (as in doing your own thing).
But how does the Sun fit in? is it a dependency on a father figure? a “touchy” ego?
Thank you, have a wonderful weekend :-)
102 · Molly · 10 October 2009
Givguv,
That is a great question. Aspects to the Nodes tell a wonderful story.
If the South Node represents an intense craving, then a planet conjunct the South Node represents an urge tied to that craving. The Sun is typically very creative, but has a craving for attention, recognition, respect that can only be met when the creativity is used not to lift yourself up, but to uplift and help others through the auspices of the Capricorn North Node— which is about providing structures and boundaries, a framework which enables others to succeed rather than taking on personal responsibility for others’ success. SN conjunctions can also be, or at least feel like, karmic unfinished business around that issue. So father issues, authority issues would make sense.
103 · Givguv · 10 October 2009
Thank you very much Molly. The Nodes are fascinating :-)
How do you interperate a square to the Nodes?
If we look at the example I gave before – the Aries Moon is Squaring the Nodes.
Do the squares emphasize the emotional difficulties and the craving of attention of the Cancer SN+Sun?
I have another question – do you give any meaning to a Yod formed by one of the Nodes as the point? (as in Cancer SN – Sag. Neptune – Aqu. Jupiter)
Thank you :-)
104 · Molly · 10 October 2009
A squaring planet is something that can draw you off course. Aries Moon can be anger and impatience with other people, so you have to work with that side of yourself so that you can be more effective.
I only read conjunctions and squares to the nodes.

Hey Molly – thank you :-)
I remember looking at charts of four of the most famous architects in the world. An astrologer posted it in a forum. The interesting thing was that all of them had venus or saturn aspecting the nodes. But the aspects were 30/150 and 60/120 degrees, if I remember correctly.

i still couldn’t find out about nodes in Synastry.
When i am checking the my synastry with him.
i see this:there is a node and “T” letter inside…i think thats true node..right?
if its so..true node conjuncts ASC and trines with his sun..
sos i should search as true node conjuncts ASC?
and how about orbs…small numbers and bigger numbers are more significant?
and thank your for your website..its really cool !

Hi EGC – for Nodes in synastry, I recommend Jan Spiller’s book, Cosmic Love. Lemme see if I can get this link to work…

Let me know how you like it.

Hello Molly – I’m developing a friendship with someone nearly 19 years older than me. Our nodes are identical: north Taurus, south Scorpio. Will this fact have special relevance in our relationship? Thanks for your feedback.
110 · StarGazerSteve · 21 January 2010
Molly: Very succinct collection of ideas on the Moons Nodes. I have been a fan of Jan Spiller’s books for many years now. Her latest, Cosmic Love, once again explores the Nodes, this time as to they allow true intimacy to occur within our relationships.
For many years now I have been in a relationship with someone 18.3 years younger than. Our matching Moon Nodes have created a soul-mate connection that has been a joy to know (even though so easy at times to take for granted).
We recognized each other almost immediately.
I love how you state again and again that the solution to the attachments identified by the South Node are resolved in sharing with others, thru the skill sets we develop thru the North Node. So true.
So nice to see a site that has this important subject right!

Hello,
I have my north node in Scorpio in the 2nd house (so South in Taurus) and i have my sun in Cancer in the 10th house. I also have my Jupiter in Taurus, which is the same as my south node.
What that could possibly mean for my life’s journey?
For years I am trying to find the correct track for me, particularly in the professional field, and although I have attained several goals I set out to achieve, I am not happy with what I am doing, but on the other hand I feel I cannot let go from going after big goals for fear of failing in my own eyes. At the same time, I am trying to find out what my real path in life is and it is hard for me, because almost whatever I see and hear around me, I feel I want to try. In the end, I feel lost and disparate, and I do not have the courage to set any of the novel and risky goals that I have at times in my mind.
Any insight into how these planetary positions contribute to that, and any help in construing the meaning of these planets for my life track would be very helpful to me right now.

I am curious how often you see a N. Node in Aries & S. Node in Libra partner.I found this description very helpful, but have also read that is almost the fate of this life time for N. Node in Aries to be single. It seems a lot of N. Node in Aries have train wreck for partnerships or are single. Just curious if there are success stories out there.

Dear Molly,
I`ve just discovered your site and it`s outstanding.
This thread hasn`t had much activity in the last few months, but I have a question that I can`t find a satisfactory answer to elsewhere and asking it here seems most appropriate, so…
What exactly does it mean if one has the NORTH NODE and SUN in the same sign (in Gemini along with my ASC., FYI). They are not conjuct as they`re 8 degrees apart.
My MOON resides in Sagittarius, 2 degrees from the SOUTH NODE, FWIW.
I`m going to assume that all I have to do to be “happy” is to just be a Gemini.
If you answer this, thank you. If not, I`m going to keep on being a Gemini and will also continue to browse your excellent site.

Thanks for the insight, for many years my life was all over the place and was very confused about everything. Just reading your article really speaks volumes. This is what I was feeling and struggling, because I did not know who to get out of my rut.
I had to admit a few problem areas in my life,by letting go and actually be selfish for once in the right way. Especially since my Venus and rising sign all share the same house in Capricorn with my south node.
Thank yo for making it clearer for me and I know what I am currently doing is the finally the right path.

121 · Fia · 23 September 2010
My south node is conjunct my ascendent in Aquarius. This is confusing for me. Isn’t this my window on the world? Am I to abandon it for the north node Leo? Leo is such a personally oriented sign (to shine like the sun) and yet it is in the relationship house (7th).
Am I to take center stage—to shine in my own light—while being in partnership? I do not like the spot light.
122 · whitewings · 4 October 2010
Eep! I have a really complicated chart with about 30 aspects that contradicts itself like crazy, especially when you take nodes into account.
My sun sign is Aries, my moon is Pisces, and my ascendant is Virgo. My north node is Pisces, and my south is Virgo of course… but to top that off, my north node of Pisces is in the sixth house (which is Virgo), so that must make my south node in the twelfth house (Pisces)! How the heck do I interpret my nodes, especially in relation to my moon sign and ascendant?
Also, I’ve been reading some of that book (most of it is available for free preview on Amazon) and the part about North Node Pisces that says I’m an obsessive planner is completely false. I don’t plan much at all. Is this because of all the contradictions in my chart? Other parts are dead on (the perfectionistic tendencies, definitely).
One last thing, how am I to know that everything is in a divine order? I’m not religious, so I don’t know that, and religion really isn’t for me… I’m sure no one can really answer that, so never mind ^^;
Anyway I’m sure Molly is probably busy so I’m not expecting a reply, this looks like a pretty big site, but if anyone sees this comment and knows anything, it would be great to have some questions answered =)
Thanks for any help, and especially thanks for the great article!

Whitewings,
We are all individuals with complex charts, so you should not expect to exactly fit 100% with every archetype you read about. We all have our quirks that make us fit or not fit the mold in whatever way.
You do not have to be religious to be spiritual, not at all. If you haven’t tried meditating, that may be a good place to start.

hi,
I have visited this site first time. It is interesting. Can you please tell me that conjuction of nodes with moon and mars(any palnet) overrides the basic character of the node?
126 · Celia · 30 October 2010
Thanks, Molly, for your great articles and feedback. I’ve been delving into nodal astrology for the simple reason that my husband’s ascendant is exactly conjunct my NN which can make for interesting and challenging times! LOL.. part of me wishes always to ESCAPE him, while at the same time I am drawn.
Anyway, my main question is, in a generic sense, what is your feeling on a person who has a lot of planets aspecting one’s South Node? I’ve noticed this in a lot of charts (not just my own), and it seems to me a bum deal, at best. Here’s this modality you and your soul is trying to escape, yet everything you were born into is DRAWING YOU BACK THERE.
So.. I guess, is there any utility to be derived from strong SN placements that seem to sabotage NN work?
thanks
127 · Celia · 30 October 2010
just to follow up… I think I misspoke. Like you state, the SN is not a place to shun or push away – I’m sure a lot of good lies there, if you can integrate the NN element.
But some of us (me, right now, I guess) feel completely STUCK in SN modality, and then notice all these planets sort of contributing to the stuckness – and crap life results.
anyway…. that’s that

This article is very helpful. Thank you. I’m just confused because I have North Node Pisces (11th house), but I completely relate to the North Node in Virgo. I have a lunar eclipse in Virgo, which I understand to mean I’m working on a lesson in that area. Does that have a connection with the North Node in Virgo?
Thank you,

Hi Molly,
Just wondering if the “true moons node” holds any water so to speak.
My North node is in Taurus, however on my chart it says my true moons node is in Aries. Other times when I’ve had my chart done it will say my NN is in Aries.
Thanks:)

In my dream last night I saw the north node inside the crescent of a very new moon. I’m not hot on astrology but the words nodes came into my head so here I am looking it up just to find it describes how things are at the moment- perhaps just starting to break free from the unhelpful pulls of the south node. I am north node in Taurus
Thank you

Hi Molly, I have the moon 23 degrees in Libra 5th house with the north node at 6 degrees in Scorpio 6th house and the south node in taurus 12th house. What type of job does north node indicate? I also understand that my tenth house Pisces is the ruler of my 4th house Virgo. Sun at 5 degrees and Venus progressing at 25 degrees. Am I to work from home at some point during my mid-latter years? What influence does Venus have in my home later on? What type of career can you suggest I pursue?
135 · Zeke Narise · 11 February 2011
Hi Molly,
My experience with astrology has led me to some interesting findings related to the north and south nodes. I feel that the house position of the north node from my vedic birthchart is the most accurate description of my soul’s destiny. I do not relate to the western birthchart north node house position. The vedic chart has my moon and north node in the 8th house, but the sign on the cusp is Sagittarius. I do have an unusual amount of enthusiasm and spirit, but in relationships I had problems with boundaries until my soulmate pointed helped me become more aware of this destructive habit. I feel more comfortable in my own world, but I do value extremely close relationships with a select few (2 people)my best friend who I have know since I was three years old, and my fiancee who I met on the spiritual singles dating site. I look forward to your feedback :)

Hi Molly,
I’m a capricorn sun/virgo moon/leo rising with Pisces NN
I have no water/air sign or any planets in water/air houses and a stellium (incl sun) in the 6th house
and omg you’re so correct! I do worry soo much and am very panicky and nervous a lot of the time though I appear very calm. I also can’t help being so critical and extremely rational/practical (I analyze everything)
But the pisces energy is definitely very soothing to me-I am literally sensing a divine order to everything…I feel more like a Pisces as I get older … I sometimes wonder why I’m getting so Piscean but this NN explanation seems so fitting now

Hi Molly, I have the Jan Spiller book Astrology for the Soul and have researched about the nodes quite a bit, but I still haven’t come to a conclusion as to whether my north node would be considered in the 3rd or the 4th, it is 1 degree away from the IC and I can relate to both descriptions, as far as the SN goes I relate mostly with the 9th so do I use that as my guide and work toward the 3rd house?

Great site! Glad I finally stumbled across it. Was wondering if anyone here has some advice:
Both my south node and sun sign are Capricorn,8th house .
My NN is Cancer, 2nd house.
Does anyone else have this issue? How do I deal with what seems to be a conflict between these two placements?
If I’ve already “done” capricorn and focused on it a lot in previous lives than why do I have a sun sign there (again)?

Sometimes I get a little lost trying to balance between the two nodes (mine virgo nn 11th house, pieces sn 5th house) because i make my living as an artist and I feel as though if I continue to pursuit art, i will fail….or that’s the idea i have given myself based only astrology….still, i’m not a surgeon or lawyer, so art is the venue i have! I get confused about this. I would love to have someone describe a character that is a libra rising, scorp sun (1st house), aries moon (0 degrees, 5th/6th house cusp), and virgo nn 11th house. its such different energy than my south node (which i kind of like and feel so cozy in to be honest) that it could be interesting to see what someone else could conjure up for those aspects : )
144 · louvi · 24 June 2012
Hi molly,
I was just wondering, cause I had read somewhere that your rising sign reflects the higher self, the sign that a person should achieve to become in the future. What does the north node mean then? What if your north node and your rising sign contradict each other, for example: north node virgo, rising sign pisces?
I hope to hear from you
145 · Molly · 25 June 2012
I don’t agree with that statement about the rising sign. So you are asking the wrong astrologer. :) Many people carry opposites like that though. The challenge is to embody the best of both worlds so that you can live a balanced life.

147 · Melissa · 25 August 2012
Hi Molly, I think your website is absolutely fabulous! And aside from Jan Spiller’s book, which I have, your website has given me so much information and insight!
I was wondering if you could perhaps interpret my situation. I have my true NN at 29degrees 58minutes in Aries. My Descendant is at 1degree 12minutes in Taurus. Would that be considered in Taurus then? The mean node is. I really feel I’m Aries NN, though I am Aries sun as well. Now, here is where it gets very complicated…I also have Venus conjunct this NN in Taurus by about 5 degress. AND Pluto conjunct my SS by about the same. Does this possibly make it harder to move past the South Node’s energy towards the North’s?
Thanks so much for your response!
148 · Molly · 25 August 2012
Thanks for your kind words, Melissa. Aries vs. Taurus, that is really close. Parts of both signs might ring true – True Node is said to be a more accurate calculation though, and since you self-identify with Aries, it may well be. But I would still consider Taurus and see how that set of issues rings. It is rare to have true and mean Node in different signs.
The nodes being involved in your Venus Pluto opposition means those things are very karmic indeed. I would look at it more as – what is my work, what do I need to do. Not, how is this going to make my way harder. The South is issues and attachments that it’s time to let go of. It’s the dragon’s tail, (the anus) where you poop out what you no longer need. Guilt, anger, fear, jealousy, whatever. Forgive, let go, move on. Then go be a Venus in Taurus and enjoy life.

Hi Molly. This tutorial was really helpful. I have a question – I have a Gemini North Node. I am also a Gemini rising, and my North Node is 1 degree away from my ascendant, in the first house. Is it significant that the node is conjunct the AC? What does it mean? I also have Neptune opposite, conjunct my descendant and South node, in the 7th house.

(1) has proven to be my lucky number so 1, 10, 28, 37 etc are lucky numbers. my south node in aquarius means false friends exploit me or i don t have real friends in times of need meaning i m better friend to others than they are to me=reality. north node is star we try to reach but south node is anchor preventing us from achieving it. my nodes mean i need love and not friendship from others

more on the nodes SO PAY ATTENTION. A woman i loved who i never kissed+never had sex with has sun sign in capricorn her north node in capricorn+south node in cancer married a guy with sun sign in cancer who also had north node in capricorn+south node in cancer. She was not fully happy about marrying him but he was 1 of lifes winners good looking high earning job she would drop him for me i am love with poor prospects (Capricorn women=goldiggers even though they have high earning incomes of their own) I m Sun sign Pisces with Moon in Capricorn i have north node in Leo+south node in aquarius she should have got with me & not him her sun sign in capricorn with her north node inside capricorn+my moon sign in capricorn, she would have been happier with me north node=good karma, south node=bad karma. The male she married is lust with prospects i was love with poorer prospects she did not want me i held out for her she did not for me. south node are bad influences people find hard to let go off when they should. north node is the challenge the goal but south node is the suffering etc. i have south node in house of marriage 7th house in aquarius. i will never be with woman i love sexually and never marry her she had children with this other male to add. she did not deserve my feelings. my south node in aquarius means i m better friend to others than they are to me. in this life my south node in aquarius+north node in leo means i m not to devote myself to other peoples causes who don t value my friendship+are only exploiting my generosity+are judas bad friends who are not their to help me in my time of need hence false frinds & my north node means think of my myself be selfish as when i give of myself to others my heart soul etc to others i am not appreciated my efforts are never appreciated when false friends etc seek to exploit or profit from me. it is not friendship that i need in this life it is to be on receiving end of anothers love as friendship is not sincere from others to me. i have been betrayed let down wronged in love and betrayed by false friends in this life. in next message i will explain why i have ill luck in love+sex venus matters
154 · Albert Wesker · 22 April 2013
how to spot ill luck in love+sex from full horoscope
(1)sun sign in pisces
(2)my venus is in 10th house of status 10th house=10th position but with no planets inside 11th or 12th house venus is actually last
(3) venus inside taurus (same as princess diana of wales+paul mc cartney who married linda and heather mills) evil 1 fixed star caput algol medusa head is in 25th degree of taurus, in few centuries into the future it ll be inside gemini
(4)my moon sign in capricorn so the “1” will be capricorn who did not want me a soulmate who does not want me or does not consider me her soulmate (the closer womans sun is to mans moon=stronger the soul connection, but capricorn women don t want right guy they prefer the wrong eg libran or cancerian males)
(5)my jupiter goes before venus (jupiter in 2nd house=position & my venus inside taurus in 10th house=position) hence luck in gambling prediction and weaker in love+sex venus matters love=sex it is between females loving males
(6)i have south node bad luck undeserved bad luck in 7th house of marriage that damages things even further
as for that capricorn woman she would not drop other cancer the crab male for me
