Jupiter’s archetype is larger than life. He’s the eternal optimist who loves a good adventure and never fears taking a risk. He can be an accomplished investor, weighing risk against reward, or a foolish gambler who presses his luck and loses it all at the track. Jupiter shows an urge to grow, explore, and expand your horizons.
When Jupiter enters Virgo, he is opposite one of the signs he rules, Pisces. In technical terms, we say Jupiter is in detriment in Virgo. This means the energies are somewhat mismatched. Jupiter is most comfortable with a big picture approach, but Virgo draws us into details, the day-to-day process, the “boring” stuff. But it can be “nerd heaven,” if you enjoy tinkering and learning how things work. Give some thought to how you might live more efficiently and sustainably in your home, workspace, and physical body.
Jupiter turns up the volume on the Virgo channel. This doesn’t turn us all into Virgos, but it does magnify tendencies to worry, fuss, and criticize. An exacting, critical, precision thought process has its uses, however, opening doors for you to get organized, improve your health, manage your time more effectively, and get more work done with less effort.
Industries associated with Virgo are due for a growth spurt: environmental cleanup, health care, health food, and services of all kinds. People ruled by Virgo are multitaskers, assistants, administrative staff, personal trainers, pet trainers, health and wellness professionals, chemists, critics, civil servants, wage laborers, and handymen. Places are zoos and animal shelters, grocery stores, hospitals, clinics, and other institutions of sickness and wellness.
“Ethical and moral values, the ability to organise, the urge to learn, the ability to teach, ambition, harmonious team-work – Excessive ambition, a care-free and thoughtless character, superficial criticism.” —Reinhold Ebertin, Combination of Stellar Influences
“Using analytical talents to find fault with your service may leave you lacking confidence and afraid to contribute… An exaggerated self-critical attitude can lead to feelings of insufficiency, necessitating constant preparation that is never complete enough to continue… By taking the leap of faith and consciously putting your desire to assist before your personal concept of how you think you should serve, you can expand your arena and attract many vocational and social opportunities. Self-trust increases as you use your finely honed analytical abilities to actively support others.” —Jan Spiller, Spiritual Astrology
Jupiter’s downside is excess. So we may see more stress on our digestive systems (Virgo) due to overindulgence in poor quality foods or anxiety and stress. This becomes a vicious cycle as gut and brain health impact one another. Stress can pull the whole system down. This makes activities and techniques to calm anxiety and release stress very helpful during this transit.
