The planet Saturn enters the sign Virgo on September 2, 2007.
Saturn is an outer, slow moving planet which stays an average of 2 1/2 years in each sign of the Zodiac. So this sign change marks a change in the vibe of the times. Saturn will exit Virgo and enter Libra in the fall of 2009, retrograde back into Virgo for one last, quick visit between April and July of 2010 before settling into Libra for the next 2+ years.
Since 2005, Saturn has been in Leo, sign of the boss, Father, leadership, and authority, recognition, respect, and ego. And it has brought out issues around these ideas. Some of us have grown more responsible and accountable to our passion and creativity. Others of us have faced ego reducing challenges.
Saturn represents the hard work we’re doing, individually and collectively. And as Saturn moves into a new sign, the focus of the work we’re doing and the lessons we’re learning shifts to a new level. Virgo represents the way we digest, analyze and assimilate new ideas, our routines. Those of us with overly cluttered or chaotic routines will be challenged to bring our house into order. Those of us with overly rigid, formulaic routines will also be brought lessons to learn, especially when Saturn opposes
Uranus in Pisces, in late 2008 to 2009.
When Saturn was in Leo, we got clear on what’s in our hearts, and what passion we wish to serve in our lives. Now that Saturn’s moving into Virgo, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and make it happen by applying ourselves to understanding all the parts that make the system work, by attending to the details with care, and meticulous attention.
Saturn in Virgo challenges us to get our act together. The upside of Virgo is efficiency. We will all be looking for ways to simplify, make better use of our time. If your desk looks like a tornado hit it, or if you can’t cook a meal without bringing down a tower of unused dishes crashing down over your head, then maybe it’s time to really think about how you’re going to manage the material reality around you— Virgo is an earth sign, so we are dealing with physical “stuff.”
The downsides of Saturn in Virgo are criticism, worry and perfectionism. We want to get our act together, but not too together. Some folks will put off even starting to do the work it will take to achieve their heart’s desire, because of the fear that it’s too big, it will take too long, or the result won’t be good enough. Don’t be one of these folks. Just get something down on paper. Perfect or not. You have to start somewhere. Then you can nip, tuck, edit, revise, and perfect your ability as Saturn moves through Virgo. Study the how’s, the why’s, the details. Ask for constructive (Saturn) criticism (Virgo). Even if it hits you a little harshly (Saturn’s character is not gentle), it can be quite helpful if you are willing to put your ego aside and take the essence of it to heart. But don’t let destructive criticism stop you in your tracks. Some people have their own stuff going on that makes them lash out at others in a mean way. Don’t let it get to you.
Virgo represents employment, so employers and employees may find this time challenging in some ways. Good help is hard to find, so if you have it, don’t take it for granted. Good bosses are hard to find too.
Saturn circles the Zodiac every 29 years. His last journey through Virgo was 1978-1980. If you are old enough, you may remember what those years felt like for you. Were they easy, were they difficult? Of course your circumstances have changed after 29 years, but you are likely to encounter similar energies, similar lessons and choices, as Saturn revisits the same part of your birth chart.
If you’re a Virgo native or have planets in Virgo in your birth chart, this two year period is a heavy time for you. This is a growth period which requires great self discipline. You work for what you get, and you get what you work for. Some of you Virgos work too hard in the first place— and Saturn will help you to become answerable to a truer set of priorities, to stop wasting time on unimportant details, to stop doing others’ work instead of or in addition to your own. You are only human, and your guts will remind you. (Virgos tend to have delicate digestive systems.) In her book Modern Transits, Lois Rodden writes: “The order, sanity, and stability of our lives come from the methodical patience of Saturn, and from its lesson we learn to have the enduring calm that comes from inner strength.” Trust your gut, Virgo, for it is the most sensitive part of your body and will literally tell you when something is up.
We are likely to see action and heaviness around the ideas, industries and commodities that Virgo is associated with. Those are animals, pets, bees and beekeepers, building and crafts, agriculture, diet, digestion, pharmaceuticals, alternative medicine, dietary supplements, the healthcare industry— big issue as Michael Moore’s movie Sicko wakes us up to the need for reform just a few months before Saturn’s entry into Virgo. Virgo rules service industries and the labor movement. Military service as well.
Virgo is very sensitive to criticism, and many have critical parents, family members, or friends who push this button. Saturn makes these issues more intense and heavy. It’s an opportunity to develop skills and mechanisms to deal with it more dispassionately, not to take it to heart and let those things wreck your peace of mind.
Each sign benefits from embracing the principles of its opposite. Virgo’s opposite is Pisces. So your meditations, dream analysis, artwork, and ability to let yourself go with the flow when the time is right, will all be helpful while Saturn is in Virgo. Most of all, Pisces rules compassion. When you take time to step outside of yourself and see the truth, the source of these things that bother you so much— hurtful expressions and criticism come from a place of woundedness or fear, things fall into perspective. It has very little to do with you. And you don’t have to let it shake your foundations.
But don’t do the Pisces thing and make yourself out to be a victim. “I can’t help the way I am, xxx happened when I was a child,” or “xxx took away yyy from me.” It is better to be the agent of change than the victim of change. And the choice is yours.
Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces natives— like your Virgo friends, you will have to work to stay in balance during these two years. Your best strategy is to do what you can to improve your situation, and resist the urge to blame others or make them wrong. Yes, other people may be at fault. Yes, their methods may suck, but you get nowhere if you focus on them. If others are doing you dirty, perhaps you need better boundaries. Maybe you need to express yourself positively rather than negatively. A long time ago, a teacher taught me to form my critiques like a sandwich: The colors you picked are fabulous! I think you need to repaint the ceiling, it looks dingy. But the room will look great when you’re done. You’ve done a fantastic job! See, I told you I thought your ceiling was dirty. But I pointed it out in a way that I hope will encourage and inspire you to keep working.
Taurus, Capricorn, Cancer and Scorpio— Saturn’s passage through Virgo brings you opportunities to improve your efficiency, take on more responsibility, get more work done, improve your health, and build something long-lasting in your world. Remember that success only comes to the degree that you put in the work. The wind is at your back— but if you haven’t hoisted your sails, you won’t get anywhere. Aim high and think long-term.
Leo and Aquarius— the pressure of the past 3 years eases up as Saturn exits your sign (Leo) or your opposing sign (Aquarius). The lessons you’ve learned, you get to keep, and if all has gone well, your thinking about yourself and your future has broadened and deepened, and includes a more realistic plan for materially manifesting your dreams. When Saturn enters Libra in late 2009, it’s likely you’ll have opportunities to take it even further.
Libra and Aries— you have this two year period to get ready before Saturn hits your Sun again. Uranus and Pluto, two indicators of major life changes, will soon impact these two signs— you are at the crossroads of change. Honor the energies by tuning in to the feelings of restlessness and exploring the possibility of making a lasting change for the better in your life.

Dear Molly:
How can this Saturn transit affect someone with his sun in Virgo (24º) and his ascendent in Piscis (9º)? Does this combination of opposites worsen Saturn’s effects or make it feel less bleak?
Thanks!
Sonia
2 · Molly Cliborne · 23 August 2007
Bleak? Did I say it was bleak?
During Saturn’s transit through Virgo, he will complete two major transits to that chart, although not at the same time. They will be a year or more apart. I would look at them as separate issues.

Hi Molly
I have virgo sun 23 with aquarius 20’ rising and pis 26’ in the first house retrograde – how will this two year transit affect me the most and what should I watch out for Thanks
4 · Laurie · 27 August 2007
Molly,
I have natal SaturnR in the 10th house, as well as mars in virgo in the 1st, and MercuryR, the sun and pluto, all in virgo in the 2nd house as well. Will all of these houses be affected at one time? Or does Saturn tour each of the 12 houses in a 2.5 year amount of time? I’m hoping to use this time to finally get through college by the way.

Molly:
Idea for an article: setting intentions during the new moon.
What intentions are best to set during the various new moons, based on the sign the moon is in?
I’d love to see an article that goes through the various signs, showing how we can use the new moon to set intentions and goals.
Thanks,
Christine

Hi Christine—
There is a very good book on that topic, New Moon Astrology by Jan Spiller.
9 · Molly · 31 August 2007
Congrats Helen and Joyce. It’s a little early to start worrying about Saturn in Libra, let’s get through Virgo first. But Saturn entering the 10th house is usually a good thing.

Hi, Molly. Hope your summer has been a productive, positive one… Mine has been a sort of belated awakening, and I have a question regarding Venus Rx’s interaction with the upcoming Saturn in Virgo transition. I’ve had a growing intuitive hunch that the relationship I’m in (starting in Jan. 2006, when Venus was retrograde) is fizzling out despite much emotional effort on both of our parts. Now, over a year & a half later, I’m pretty aware that our bond isn’t going to spontaneously recombust, as magnetic as our opposite personalities were once attracted, and that we should go our separate ways.
I am waiting for the right time to muster my strength, as this will be a big life change considering we live together and have just (doh!) renewed our lease. Now that Venus is Rx once again, I realize that the love spell has definitely worn off and love alone isn’t enough without real, genuine substance… Any advice on whether this Saturn in Virgo transit is a green light to move on?
Thank you for your time — your horoscopes and wisdom are greatly appreciated.

Hi Molly,
I started art school at a university the fall that Saturn entered Virgo in 1978. I have Sun at 23 Virgo and I am a 3 Pisces rising. They were some of the greatest years of my life. I learned a lot and worked hard, but I also met people from all over, it was work that I loved and the change in me was phenominal. I didn’t know about astrology back then, but I feel that I am even more ready to accept anything that Saturn brings. I am psyched. I am so done with the way things have been. Bring on Saturn!

With Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus all in Leo and Leo rising, you’d better believe I am CELEBRATING today!! Yahoo—I already feel lighter with Saturn on its way out of Leo. I have a very meticulous side so whatever needs to be done with Saturn in Virgo I am sure will get done. Molly, how will natal Uranus in Virgo affect how I experience the next 2+ years?
13 · Molly · 4 September 2007
Thanks for sharing, Ann! I hope the next two years open up your world too.
SMMBa, if you have Uranus in Virgo, that means at some point Saturn will transit Uranus. It will not be the entire 2.5 years, just a few months most likely. It’s a period of time when you have to face and deal with difficult changes or difficult truths and break new ground in your life.
14 · Molly · 4 September 2007
Jessi, Venus Retrograde and Saturn in Virgo are two completely separate events that don’t really have anything to do with each other.
Just like Venus retrograde isn’t a good time to make commitments, it also isn’t a good time to break them. Give it a couple of weeks at least.

Hello Gang,
I have a mundane saturn in virgo story.
I usually start my day with a morning meditation. This morning I started my day sorting socks with great fervor.
I have no fervor for socks normally but I have mercury in virgo.
I hope use this transit of saturn to stop worrying about what people think. It has been my potential downfall thus far.
Molly ,I will take your advice to get some
alternative healing.

Howdy Molly…Good to see you back again. Well, here we go with another 2 years of fun in the Saturnine Sun. I’m a Virgo native, and I recall how 1977 – 1980 went for me. It wasn’t purdy at all.
Over the past couple years, I’ve watched my partner go through delux hell. He’s a Leo, and he’s glad Saturn has moved on. But now it’s in My Back Yard. Thanks for the advise on how to tackle the big and little issues that come our way. Oh gawly, this is gonna more fun than pulling a monkey out of my ummm…ear.

Hi Molly. I’m an Aries with Pisces rising and a Leo moon. Virgo governs my 6th house and a little bit of my 7th, although Leo covers part of the 6th house as well. I understand that the next 2-1/2 years will be ideal for working on issues of physical and psychological health and nutrition, but what worries me is the area of employment. I’ve been overcoming PTSD and am still unemployed. I’m not sure I’m ready to return to the workforce just yet, but also know I need to financially. So even though I’m hoping to go back into the work force soon, when I read things like Saturn in Virgo creating critical or difficult bosses, I get worried. Perhaps it means I will have trouble finding work? On a more positive note, could it also mean that I might find a very good work situation and be able to focus on my daily routine more?? Just trying to put a positive spin on things as much as possible! ;-) Thanks! ~ Shelley

Thanks for such a great article Molly. You write very well! I especially love the ‘criticism as sandwich’ tip. I do have Mercury in Taurus so hopefully I’ll be quick on my feet with this :)

With my Sun and Moon in Aquarius and my Rising and Jupiter in Leo, I’m really glad that Saturn is moving on. Also, I have no planets in my 2nd house Virgo so I feel like I can finally take a breath. Still the last time Saturn was here, in my early 20’s, I was able to get my finances on target and traveled Europe on a budget (hostels and backpacking for 3.5 mos) for the trip of a lifetime. Now that I’m a bit older, perhaps I can revisit those places and a few more but while staying in B&B’s. Ahhh! I can dream. LOL!

Hi with mecury in virgo does this mean that my communication to some extent will come under the scrutinising eye of saturn.xx any comments
23 · Molly · 1 October 2007
No Carole. Saturn doesn’t have eyes. :)
Saturn is symbolic of a need to Take Care of Business. So I think you may find yourself needing and wanting to communicate more carefully and deliberately, and work more efficiently (Virgo), because things are more difficult if you don’t. You may also find yourself with pessimistic (Saturn) and critical or worried (Virgo) thoughts (Mercury) bouncing through your mind like a hamster in a wheel at times. It’s important to work to minimize those destructive Virgo things as well.
24 · Tono · 1 October 2007
I love the “critique sandwich”. I’d always heard the 80/20 feedback rule; 80 percent positive, 20 percent ‘constructive’.
Are there any Saturn transits that are easier than others? The past 2 years have been, well, interesting…lets face it, rough. (Leo Ascendant, Mars and Jupiter) The next 2.5 years are Saturn in Virgo (Pluto, Uranus, Venus in Virgo opposite Moon, Saturn and Chiron in the 8th) and then the 2.5 years after that, Saturn in Libra hitting my Sun and Mercury. So might some of this be easier than other parts? So far, I’ve come through feeling quite lucky but is there a way to best approach another 5 years of interesting Saturn?
25 · Hannah S-Q · 2 October 2007
I had a particularly poignant and rather funny Saturnian dream last night.
In the dream, I was forced to attend a class that involved some pretty intense mountain climbing—it was treacherous, uphill and very physical. I wanted to get out of it, but there was no way but up the mountain.
The teacher (whom I believe was supposed to be Saturn, but I dunno) was cantankerous and harsh and drove everyone kinda hard. There was also some math and other things involved that I’m not good at and I didn’t want to do.
At the end of the class, I went up with a friend (ironically the friend is a Capricorn) to complain about the class to the instructor. He seemed amused/annoyed at me—and said ‘What do you want? Do you want your money back?’ and I said ‘No…it’s not about money. I just don’t appreciate the harsh way you dealt with us. I mean, it was just a very hard thing for me—with the physical stuff and the math and all of that. It’s like anathema to me’
After I gave this embarrassed speech, he seemed to be listening but not really heeding what I was saying. The Capricornian friend morphed into something of a jerk and abandoned me as I was trying to drive away from the place where the class was held.
Well anyway—ehhee. I guess I should’ve posted this on the dream board instead but whatever.
XO,
26 · Molly · 2 October 2007
Hi Tono— Saturn hitting the Sun was one of the hardest times I have ever been through. It kicked my ass. But my ass needed kicking at the time. :)
Your best approach is to read up on the energy, and decide in advance that you’re going to do it well, not badly.
You can make a list— draw a line down the center of a piece of paper. On one side, list the stupid ways you could use this energy to mess things up for yourself. And on the other side, the ways you can use it to your benefit. Then decide which list you’re going to do. It should be a no-brainer! Get organized, get to work, and stop blaming other people for your problems. It won't stop the heaviness, but it will help you to avoid making it worse by your own actions.
Nowadays, when Saturn bears down on my chart and I feel awful.. sometimes I have had to endure a painful
lossahem, learning experience.. but most of the time I can just check the calendar, laugh at myself and look forward to the time it’s over.27 · Molly · 2 October 2007
Hey Hannah—
I’m in a stock trading course, and the teacher is an Aries, very abrasive in his style, and unapologetic. He is very Saturnian too, often reiterating that trading requires discipline, and you are 100% responsible for your success or failure. He’s there to help, but if you haven’t done the work as instructed, he’ll shut the door in your face.
I don’t know what your dream means, but it made me think of this teacher. I admire someone who calls it like they see it. I try to be that way myself, and I’m always a little taken aback when someone tells me they don’t appreciate my honesty. If you want someone to blow flowers up your butt, call someone else.
28 · Hannah S-Q · 2 October 2007
Yello Mollywollydoodles,
Yeah—I totally understand what you mean. I do value honesty and I think the dream was about some of those hard lessons that are simply unapologetic. I may have a rebellious side but I do appreciate teachers and I always have. My insecurities with the topics of the lessons were probably the focal point (that and obviously my Saturn Return).
Interestingly, I am a teacher, too, which is something I am not altogether secure in yet. I know I have the quality of leadership in some ways, but I am also very Piscean and I am not exactly a taskmaster. It’s a split in my personality that I’m trying to bridge. Thankfully I am teaching art, which is something I am not as stressed about conveying. The confidence in general is what I am lacking most.
I still need to take a math class…
:D
p.s. if people ask for your opinion and are mad that you’re not flowery, then that’s definitely not your problem. Beyond that—I dunno. I think there’s a need for both unapologetic commentary and for a gentler approach. I guess that’s why there are different kinds of peoplle. There isn’t one answer for anything, I don’t think. I know that sometimes a hard sell just isn’t right—and other times it’s just what is called for.
29 · Molly · 2 October 2007
Once, I went to a dream workshop where I was asked to tell the story of the dream from the perspective of the other figures in the dream. I bet if you told the story from the teacher’s perspective, you might see yourself in a new way. :)
I am an impatient teacher. The last student I worked with— you know the one I’m talking about, Hannah— after several months would still ask me what Uranus meant. That’s aggravating. But working with someone who’s engaged in the process is a lot of fun.

April—
I am so sorry about your brother.
I don’t understand a lot of what you wrote about the astrology. But I do understand that if your ascendant is 29 Virgo, then Saturn will be transiting your 12th house for a while. Saturn in the 12th is often indicative of taking time off to bring closure to an old cycle and to lick your wounds. Saturn is work, and the 12th is the unconscious. So I think it’s important that you focus on your own healing now, on getting back to ok.

Sandi, I don’t know if you made the right choice. Is there really such a thing? I’m not a fortune teller.
Meg, if you have read enough of my comments, you know I don’t look kindly on folks feeling sorry for themselves. Especially when talking about Saturn transits. Saturn usually won’t take something away without good reason. It can turn out really well if you engage the energy and maintain a positive attitude. It’s just work, nothing to be scared of.

Everybody else feels better that Saturn left Leo except me (hhmph). I’ve got Saturn transiting n. Pluto conjuncting North Node and Eros in the 9th. I just want to run away to a foreign country and hide! I’m really trying to organize but so easily overwhelmed. I thought moving to a smaller house, having a garden and a few chickens would simplify my life but I’m just as lost as ever. Should I just whip out the passport, or does this say something else?
41 · Molly · 12 October 2007
JAG, simplifying is probably a good idea. Running away will probably make things worse, unfortunately. We tend to do best under Saturn transits when we’re willing to take our medicine.
Saturn in the 9th isn’t that tough. Once Saturn clears your Pluto, things will probably get easier.

do you think; is my Uranus transit already over?

Dear Molly,
In context of Uranus transits you mentioned that one should be careful, especially if one have planets around the middle degrees of the mutable signs— Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and
Pisces.
I was born 1.3. so I think (and hope) that degrees don´t concern me anymore? In 2005 I had these crushing waves of Uranus and I must say I had it enough! :(
— Rita 7 October 2007 #
Rita, the Sun is in Capricorn on January 3. Capricorn is cardinal, not mutable.
44 · Molly · 10 November 2007
Rita, Uranus is at 14 degrees Pisces right now. Go to astro.com and run your chart to find out the degree of your Sun. If it’s around 14 or 15, then your Uranus transit is still on for another month or two. If it’s a lower degree, it has passed.

Sal, and Maya, I can’t run a chart without your location of birth as well as time. At some point in Saturn’s journey through Virgo, he will be near the degree of your Moon. Exactly when, I can’t tell without your chart. Saturn limits and restricts, and the Moon is your emotional comfort and well being. So if Saturn is on your Moon, it is an emotionally heavy time, difficult to get satisfaction or comfort. But it’s not without its upside— you can get a lot of important work done. And if you can get past the emotional heaviness and apply yourself to doing important work, you do tend to get satisfaction out of it in the long run.

Thanks for this great synopsis. I’m looking forward to the housecleaning, both mental and physical about to take place :)
I have many aspects to this saturn transit -square my sag. sun and gemini ascedant, conjuct mars, jupiter then my saturn return in the late degrees of Virgo.
I am curious to know, should I interpret the aspect to the ascendant in a simialr fashion to as aspects to planets?
52 · Molly · 29 November 2007
Hi Ali— yes, you will probably feel Saturn squaring your Asc. Remember it will also square the Dsc, so it will impact relationships too. Good luck with the housecleaning. I like your attitude. :) It will see you through the rough spots.

Molly,
I am a virgo and remember quite well the 78-80 Saturn period. It was a very difficult time in my life—experiencing a major life changing event. Major unhappiness, mixed with sweet happiness because I had my first child in 1979. Confusing, heart breaking period. Thanks for clarifying that it was a Saturn influence.
Be well.
55 · Mandie · 17 December 2007
Molly – I have five planets conjunct in Virgo (4rth House). My birthdate is December 23, 1964, St Boniface, Manitoba at 4:47pm. With pluto moving into Capricorn and a conjunction with full moon on the 23rd Dec, it sounds as though the next year could be major somehow…do you have any thoughts? I don’t usually receive this much impact…
Thank you,
Mandie

Hey, Molly:
‘77 thru 80 were really tough for me, some of the saddest years of my life, in fact! I hope this time around things are different. At least now I’m an adult and have some choice in how my life turns out…

Dear Molly,
Uranus has been transiting my 17 Ascendent Pisces for a while now (next transit in Feb). What can I expect with Saturn hitting my Descendent soon.
Thanks.
58 · malcolm · 2 January 2008
Hey Molly… Im a leo, so I guess I should be glad of the shift, but my Saturn and Rising are in Virgo. I guess I’m a little nervous. I took the past few years in stride, and I usually do all right, but I feel worn down now. I am an addict in recovery and I have a hard time keeping support because I am on the road year-round. My father killed himself on his second Saturn return…. Yuck. Every challenge that Saturn is offering is a lesson I really WANT to learn. I guess my faith in myself is just a little shaken lately.
Sometimes focused work terrifies me…. It brings up so much emotion for me, even if its doing what I love. I am so skilled at aversion, I do everything I should to make my life work, but then underneath it all, I have trouble working without guidance and support. In other words, I worked super hard to make my life they way it is now…. I have everything I need to focus on my art. But i rent movies, and eat poorly….. read piles of irrelevant books. I know exactly what I want to do, but in little ways I keep turning my back on myself.
Sigh. This is more that I wanted to write. I guess I’m just a little concerned.
Thanks for hearing me out.
Malcolm (im a girl)
59 · Molly · 4 January 2008
Malcolm,
You sound like a dear person. I’m really sorry about your dad. That’s incredibly hard for a Leo, especially losing him in such a heartbreaking way.
If you have Virgo rising, then you probably still have Saturn transiting your 12th house. That’s a tough transit for anyone. It makes it more difficult to find stability and get grounded when the planet of rules and structures is in such an emotional, unconscious, illogical place. Saturn in the 12th is about recharging your batteries and withdrawing from the “rat race” aspect of life, dealing with your unconscious bugaboos. It is important to face your deepest feelings and fears right now, and do the best you can to take care of yourself, knowing that this shall pass. So don’t beat yourself up for watching movies, you really need that time to kind of check out and escape. And there are far worse ways you could be doing it.
Journaling is a good idea. Saturn in the 12th is typically when famous people write their memoirs. (but we common folk can do it too.) When Saturn enters your first house, it will be time to reinvent yourself and rebuild your identity.

Molly,
so saturn will be hitting my natal pluto in late 2009 which is in libra & my 5th house (I’m an aquarius with my) what
will this mean and will it be affect by the fact my natal pluto is retrograde.
I find this kind of interesting and so may you. I was born in January 1978, I had a surgery to open my softspots, that same year. Late september of 2007, I went back to the same hospital (where the surgery was performed) to find out if there was a genetic cause to the closed softspots. So every 29 years, I get my head examined:)

Hi Molly,
First time i’m reading your article. Very interesting! I have venus in Virgo sign and Virgo is my seventh house. I’m a cancerian with Moon in Scorpio and Pisces rising.Do you see anything special in my relationships with people as Saturn is transiting over my natal Venus?
Thank you so much for any input.
62 · Rosie · 11 February 2008
How about a Sun Sign Sagittarius and Ascendant Aries? Obviously, the Retrograde phase takes place in the 6th house of health, working environment and duties in general. Would that mean worse health, for example, or just a good time to review the already employed methods of maintaining health? Thank you very much, indeed.

Hi Molly,
I would like to ask about what the effects are when Saturn is unaspected in a natal chart and I would like to know how is this affected by different transits? What does a person do about an unapected planet? In my natal chart Saturn is in Aries in the second house.

I have a Saturn in Virgo in the 6th with a sun and Asc in Aries, moon in cancer, and two particularly difficult aspects: Saturn square neptune and Mars square Uranus.
Boy has it been a wild ride so far, though my Saturn return is not officially until the end of Summer 2009.
Basically I’m going through major career issues. I am in a job that drains the life out of me and I’m trying to get out – however, 12 interviews later, I still could not get a new job! I’m going on my 13th or so interview this week and I’m hoping Jupiter hitting my midheaven TRULY works wonders!
Aside from that, I’ve been obsessed with weeding things out of my life lately. The question essentially is: WHO AM I? and IS THIS THE WORK I AM MEANT TO DO? I’m reassessing whether or not I should stay in my career – and also I’m beginning to realize that Who I Am so far is a cumulative of what people expect me to be! I guess in true Virgo fashion, I’m wanting to revert back to purity – to the essence of who I am minus all the “frou frou” people plastered on me.
I’m not sure what the best course of action will be for this… I’m flirting with the idea of taking yoga/meditation classes but I’m sooo busy with my full time and part time jobs!
Ack!
Juggle juggle juggle…

Well written article, describes symbolically the effects of Saturn’s passage thru Virgo.
I am a Virgo, 38yo, and the least I can say is that times are very tough and turbulent (for us Virgos). Sometimes the whole thing seems you are literally going through hell, other times you automatically get a magic drive to stand up and continue.
I can feel a ‘new’ life is ahead at around the end of 2009, but I also know well that I will go through real hell till this new life comes…
Thank you for your articles and opinions.

Yo Katie,
Jupiter is often read to be “benefits” in the sense of wish fulfillment. I have had several people ask me why their Jupiter MC transit did not result in the job they wanted. In my experience Jupiter brings benefit in the form of freedom, a bigger field to play on…. so if you are looking to switch from one cage to another, then your Jupiter transit might not work the way you want. The problem is not with the transit not working. The problem is too small thinking. Think big and swing for the fences……

How does this transit effect/affect me being a virgo (8.42) and having virgo in my 5th house (24.05)? I’m trying to understand how and when it goes through my 5th house. Is it the whole time it is in virgo or just when it reaches 24.05?

(Sorry I’m answering these questions late. If you guys are still there…)
Heather, I don’t know where you read that but in my experience, Saturn brings up problems that make it obvious what you need to do for all systems to truly be “go.” The house being transited by Saturn is where the work is. So it’s usually not smooth sailing.
Sarah, yikes! I hope things go better for you. Saturn will reach 9 Virgo in mid August. Until then, keep your nose to the grindstone.
Samantha, are you trying to get me to do your homework for you? ;) Check this out.

Hi Molly,
My chart reads, Saturn is in Virgo in the 9th House…and I’m a Leo/Virgo sun (born on the Leo side of the cusp, Aug. 21). Most of what I’ve read pertains to those who have their sun in Virgo. For those of us who were born with Saturn in Virgo, does it mean anything in particular now that Saturn is in Virgo?
Just curious-
Thank you for your time!
P.S. You read my chart last year and it was fabulous…thanks again!

Hello there fellow Saturn return peeps!
I’m also in my first Saturn Return (Saturn in Virgo in the 9th at 8 degrees and I wouldn’t say it’s ‘fun’ yet but I was sort of pleasantly surprised (so far)). Then again I have a very very active imagination and can imagine many horrible things.
Well…there were some unpleasant encounters with people and some other intense things. I’ve been trying to embrace the idea of doing what I really want and need to do, but there seem to be so many areas that I need to work on and I’m finding it hard to focus and take care of my toddler, but it could certainly be much worse, so I am not complaining. I am also trying not to dread it. I think I almost wet my pants when my Saturn return began, worrying about what might happen, but to **** with that. $hit happens, even when it’s not a transit like this.
Then again the Pluto transit I had before this was very very gnarly. Had a very rough adjustment into motherhood. I hope nothing scarier comes along and knocks me on my @$$.
Again best of luck to all with various transits.
XOXO,
Uncle Hannah

Hey there Jess! Thanks for checking in!
You can read this article in a general way. It is not meant to pertain to just Sun signs. The Saturn in Virgo themes are universal and apply to anyone. They’re especially relevant to you with natal Saturn in Virgo. It’s a Saturn return, and that’s about responsibility, structure, and hard work coming full circle. What the “terrible twos” are for Mars (planet of self awareness and the word “no!“), the Saturn return is to Saturn, planet of discipline, boundaries, hard work and responsibility. If you’re a hard worker, which I know you are, and on a path that is well suited to you, than it can signal a time of a major push forward in your career/life’s work. The Saturn return has a really bad reputation— in my opinion that’s totally bogus. For most folks I know, it’s a really important time of growth and coming into your own in life.

What can a 2 degrees Pisces sun intercepted in the second house expect to happen now that saturn is in her eigth? Finances, relationship and family are a mess. Tell me it won’t last for two and a half more years.
82 · Molly · 6 July 2008
I don’t know much except that Saturn is past the opposition to your Sun, Victoria.
So I guess what a Pisces should do is the same as what the rest of us should do during a Saturn transit to a financial house-- strap on her tits and get her financial house in order. Pisces are experts at avoiding unpleasantness, and this tactic, although it's appropriate sometimes, can be really really harmful if you're not dealing with the hard stuff. Accept that no one is going to do it for you, and make a plan, Stan. Pluto is coming to sextile that 02 Pisces Sun soon, and there’s a lot more goodies Pluto can bring if you’ve done the work asked of you by Saturn.
83 · Denis · 16 July 2008
Hi again,
I like this site. :)
Commentry: Saturn is what we might be when we are old. Virgo is picky, fastidious, but also expert and knowledgable. Anyone with Saturn in Virgo might do Virgo things when they are old, Work, is one.
One question I do have is a general one about Saturn in aspect. TRansiting Saturn, it is traditionally a malific. I¨d like to know what your thoughts are on Saturn´s aspects on other planets, hard aspects, whether they can be associated with physical disability. Saturn and Mars are both physical planets, as opposed to intellectual or emotional.
So the coming Uranus Saturn opposition this year should produce some real-world manifestations in the world at large. What are your thoughts please Molly ?
Thanks Denis.

Dear Molly,
thank you for your wonderful site… and insights :)
I am really hoping you may be able to give me some guidance.
I am a Leo with Scorp moon and Virgo rising, currently going through my Saturn return (born 1/8/79, 9.17am Melb Australia)
My partner is a Leo with Aries moon and Scorp rising, 6 years my senior (born 19/8/73, 8.45am Sydney)
Aside from my own personal crisis with Saturn return at the moment, we are currently negotiating on a rural property to buy together interstate. We have dragged negotiations out because we aren’t quite ready to sell our current place, and as a result are about to hit Mercury Rx!! I am anxious about signing contracts and committing etc during that period.
We have been through some very hard times recently but have agreed to forge ahead, put our hearts into our dreams and try to reach our goals together. I have been working as hard as I can for the last 2 years, trying to make sure I build nice strong foundations for the future and take proper responsibility for myself.
I’m committing myself fully to plans… when things are still shaky and a bit scary.
Any advice at all you could give me would be very much appreciated!
Best wishes to you,
Leah
89 · Molly · 25 September 2008
Hi Leah— you have Mercury rx in your natal, like me. That means that in a way, you come into your element during Mercury rx. You still have to be careful, the slings and arrows can trip you up. But I have done all the things you are not supposed to do during Mercury rx, including signing on my house and my car. Keep an eye on Mercury, keep an eye on Skywatch, and make sure any contingencies or unknowns are written into the contract before you sign. Don’t be afraid to get picky with the paperwork.

I am a 39 year old Virgo with Scorpio ascendant and Taurus moon sign and since September of last year I have been experiencing the most challenging emotional period of my life: confusion about career path and finances, lack of close friendships or relationships, depression and health issues along with family struggles.
Since I am not an expert on astrology I was hoping you could help answer a couple of questions I have:
1.) My natal chart shows I was born with Virgo in the 11th house. Is that the house Saturn is passing through for me right now?
2.) Does this get any easier?
Thanks in advance…….

Hello, Molly! Last Saturn in Virgo was interesting. I was graduated from college, passed my RN boards, and got my first professional position; we bought our home, after having to move 3 times from rentals in the past 2 preceeding years, and things finally settled down a bit. Not a bad transit. I’m 9/11/46, Sag. midheaven, Pisces moon and Ascendant, so Leo in Virgo from a natal standpoint. Somehow Saturn/leo stuff is always more difficult. The last return on that from approx. ’76 to ’78 was divorce, change major to nursing, remarry, move several times, deal with a custody battle during which kids were kidnapped by their dad and returned to me permanently…YOWZA!!! These past two years have been unsettled, but I’m older, more experienced, and maybe a bit wiser. Began a PhD in distance learning (commuting to school in Austalia every 18 mos.), got my collie, and while there were some rocky places, weathered it much better. I don’t anticipate any disasters while Saturn is in Virgo. We grow, we learn to handle these things… Don’t ever waste time feeling sorry for yourself. There’s not enough time, and you can use the energy for something more positive! Keep up the great work. I love reading you! I tell all my nursing students who are interested in astrology about your site, and I also tell them to take a good course in medical astrology. As a nurse practitioner, I use it with our patients a lot.

Hi Molly,
What a great article on Saturn in Virgo. It all makes sense!! I’ve known of Saturn in Virgo and mostly looked at it as just lessons to be learned and weaving my garden sort to speak. Then when you said that Leo in Saturn was about what sparks passion in us and Virgo in Saturn is putting those passions and dreams to work and getting down to business, it made perfect sense of why I am on the path of tarot card reading and helping others with my psychic abilities. I started to develop that side of me when Leo was in Saturn, fell in love, and here I am :) Putting it all together to eventually become my own boss someday :)
I love your website and I hope to order a reading from you someday soon or maybe even ask you to mentor me as I’m looking for an astrology teacher and saw you offer tutoring sessions :)
Take care and blessings!

Hi Anne—
Your rising sign is not a matter of opinion. If you enter your birth data at www.astro.com, it will calculate your exact ascendant and all planetary positions in your chart. In other words, it doesn’t matter what I think. It is what it is.

Interview goes very well that I feel so confident of getting a job. Even after getting a wonderful feedback..someone else gets selected..It’s the wrong rule of God that moving of planets affects human life so adversely..Even this rule is bad that your previous life karma effects this life because we have control over the present life and not over our past life. God should equalize everything in the same birth…!

i was born in london 26/08/1986 9.30 am.. i thnk that makes me a Virgo, with Libra ascendent and taurus moon. the saturn return has been awful in some ways – i became homeless for awhile living in a hotel for over a month! i watch the man i loved marry someone else i have also been more lonely than i have ever been in my life, my friends and family dissapointing me but it also gave a good kick up the backside to become more organised and on the ball. I joined an organisation in 2007 sept which i am really passionate about and i re-entered college in 2008 to read law and its been hard work but i’v learnt so much and i really enjoy the course. the thing is saturn even though it has helped me transform myself and my life completely it has also worn me out a little.. i have ascendent and venus in libra so does it look like i’ll have another 2 years of this loneliness and hardship… i love the independence and personal boundaries i have created but i really dont think i can handle another two years of feeling so isolated from the people i love.
104 · Molly · 14 March 2009
Marina… no, Saturn coming out of your 12th and over your ascendant is good. Saturn in your Sun sign is the loneliest, hardest time. It’s the time you realize that everything in your life is your fault, the good and the bad. And that is a good thing to realize. It’s not easy, but it gets you started on creating and shaping your future.

Hello Molly,
Thank you for the article.
I thought I would share my experience as this transit is very much affecting me. I have a Virgo Saturn conjunct Virgo Sun conjunct Virgo Midheaven! It’s been an interesting year as Saturn crossed all and is now in retrograde going over them again and will go over them once more when it turns direct – whew. I found myself laid off from a job I loved but was not my passion. Now I am struggling in a low paying part time job while I diligently and slowly put pieces together to do the things I really love – pilates and yoga certifications, astrology and creating a clothing line. I feel like I am going in a much better direction. Even if I don’t reap rewards in these efforts for another year, I have clear goals. I know that these transits, although hard, are pushing me into a more aligned place.

I’ll be 57 in October 2009. Saturn was in Libra when I was born. Since last January, and last September in particular, I’ve had a sense of shake up in my life and a sense of restriction. I’ve been thinking about times which were cross-roads in my earlier life. There’s a sense of “if only…” If only I’d know then what I know now. If only I’d had the support I needed… The return of Saturn to Libra sounds scarey, so I’m trying to gain perspective. From some, I have the impression that Saturn has a tendency to change everything, which makes me fear loss and lonliness. But is it also a period where things can change for the better with hard work? I’ve actually been thinking of finishing my college degree, which I dropped in 1974. It’s a regret that I didn’t finish. Is this the sort of thing to do under a Saturn return? I haven’t felt as confused and restricted as I have in the last several months, since my early twenties!

PS I just finished reading Ray Merriweather’s predictions for the year. He suggests that Pluto in Capricorn is a hard alignment for 15 years for people whose sunsign is Libra. I realize that my sunsign is olnly a part of the picture, but a hard alignment for 15 years. I defintely need perspective. I have felt an unfamiliar sense of restriction since the beginning of 2008. Not my usual “something good is just around the corner feeling” and it’s been oppressive. Ray also points out that there’s a lot of fear in the air and I guess I’m feeling it.
110 · Molly · 20 March 2009
Hi Ranger— Yes, it does sound like you are getting a little wrapped up in the fear. You could probably benefit from a good chart reading.

Molly,
While the effects of saturn in virgo seemed subtle to me i wonder how this will continue to influence me. Im Aries 29 degrees sun (7 house) and virgo rising 26 degree. Does this mean the tranistions above will intensify my saturn in scorpio? I read that saturn in scorpio can be dangerous to its natives!!
112 · Elizabeth · 3 April 2009
I appreciated Ranger’s comment, since I haven’t had much company during the period since 2002, which has felt like I’m in a vortex of scarcity and dark energies. I just found out yesterday that I am in my second Saturn return but that only explains the recent stuff. This business of Saturn coming into Libra (I’m 0 degrees Libra sun) . . . I dunno. At least I’ll be in familiar territory!! With the current poverty, there’s no money in sight for a reading. Any words of advisement? Thanks.

maj,
There is always something coming.
I am sorry for your losses. You have a lot of fixed energy and it is getting set off right now. Not by Saturn. Saturn in Virgo is past your Sun (the hard part) and should be bringing a business opportunity of some kind later this year when it trines Saturn in Taurus. Hang in there.
Meanwhile, take the time you need to grieve your losses. That’s an important part of the process.

Thank you Molly ,
I dont know why but i didnt expect a response …. sorry for that
So the worst is over ok i promise i will start to be positive again pick up my sword and battle again after all we are in it to win it right ?
When will saturn trine taurus ?
Thanks for your words of wisdom it means everything and gives me hope …

Hi Molly,
My Sun, Venus , and Asc. node are in Pisces and my Moon and Pluto are in Virgo. Saturn in Taurus in my 6th house. With Saturn transiting Virgo I have had a lot of health issues (broken ribs, relapses of Lyme Disease, pulled muscle, etc.) and my business has suffered greatly as well. I feel it is time to let go of my business (12 years of STRESS and stain) and move on to a different career, maybe the health field. Having a lot of trouble letting go and moving on out of fear that it is the wrong time, but I have been burned out by the demands of business for a long time now and my health seems to be suffering from it as well. Hoping for a possible consultation looking further into my chart and if the timing to move on is right? Thank you.

Hi Molly,
Thank you – your article is very helpful in understanding /feeling this big teacher up there. Saturn transiting my 10th house with pluto/uranus/mars all in virgo up there and it has not been fun. at birth it is in the 4th house in pisces and it seems the lessons are ever-ongoing…. Will it feel lighter when it stations direct???
Best-
119 · snowyowl · 12 May 2009
I’ve read that saturn transiting pluto can show a selfishness and ruthlessness that surprises. I’ve lived through my own and my brother’s so far and now my son’s in Virgo conjunct Uranus X generation. What would be a positive way to use that energy. It’s interesting to think of the health collapses as Rich talked of causing the necessity for changes. Saturn goes direct at 14 degrees and his Uranus/Pluto is 15 and 16 by progression so into June. Then the intensity may go but the fall out may go on for years right? do you think? an attitude established.
Thanks, good site..

hi molly,
i really enjoy reading your posts, everything seems to fall into place for me when i read them, especially concerning a friend of mine. since saturn has been in virgo he seems to of taken a step forward and as soon as saturn goes retrograde takes 2 back!! he suffers with depression (his natal saturn is in cancer)he goes deep into a cave and i cannot reach him. last year saturn was square his venus(sag) and this year it is square his moon (gem) i get a feeling now that saturn is going forward i will hear from him soon. incidently he cut me off the day saturn went retrograde. he has been through a lot these past 2 years. im hoping that he can now see the light and move forwards? he is also a libra with a uranus conjunction at 22 degrees and pluto at 5 degrees! so i have a feeling there will be a few more storms ahead??
any advice is appreciated. x

Hello Molly,
I have just discovered your sight & have just read this article. It explains a lot of things that I thought I was losing my mind. I was born 15.09.1961 around 6.15 am, born in the sign of Virgo. For the last 18 months I have suffered such a lonliness & isolation of all friends & family. I am suffering with depression & anxiety all the time & just can’t seem to shake it off no matter what I tell myself.
I am starting to think that something is wrong with me. Are you able to shed any light on this for me so as I can move forward.
123 · Molly · 21 May 2009
Caroline,
I’m sorry… Sounds like Saturn in your sign all right, Saturn is right on top of your Sun right now. And that feels heavy. Also Uranus opposing Virgo, which means it’s time to free yourself from limiting situations and attitudes, and there are opportunities to do that. And this Jupiter Neptune Chiron stellium is right on top of your South Node, indicating that very old stuff is being brought up, and it’s time to let go. Painful, but cathartic. Please see someone about your depression and anxiety, as these transits produce stress in the physical body as well. Your energies are more easily and quickly depleted during Neptune transits. Gentle therapies like bodywork, supplementation, and dietary changes can really help. Read my teacher Lynn’s article on Neptune transits.
124 · Molly · 21 May 2009
Hi Kat— I don’t have your friend’s chart, but it sounds like he is not dealing with the depression. With Saturn, nobody can drag you out of it, even someone who is clearly a loyal friend like you. Transiting Saturn means it’s time to take responsibility and in his case, take care of yourself and your health. With Saturn in Cancer, one of the themes is a family pattern of not taking care of each other emotionally. And he may need to work through it so that he can take care of himself.
Saturn conjunct the Sun often produces that rock bottom “a-ha” moment that the person needs in order to start climbing out of the hole.

Hello Molly, Love your website, you have helped many people. I will try not to be long, but the last few years have almost taken me out. I am a grandmother who is raising her grandchildren, because their parents are drinking and drugging, killing me. My grandchildren have been abused severly. Criminal charges are pending…
My b-date is Sept. 7,1955, born Ga. 5:30 a.m.
Also, my daughter who is being abused, their mother
is in denial. I know she is going thru a lot, her b-date is Oct. 6, 1978 Capricorn Rising., Saturn in Virgo, about to hit her Sun in Libra. When will she wake up? Everyday is a struggle for me, and I am a very Positive person.
This has just been too much. Thank You so much, a little hopeful insight from you would be appreciated.
God Bless You, Molly Cindy from Georgia

Molly I need your help!!!!!!!
I am a virgo experiencing my “Saturn Return”; I was born on 09-13-78 @ 11:20am in Paterson, NJ. My life was running quite smoothly: I recently purchased my first home and I was getting to a place where I was beginning to stand on my own two feet. April 17, 2009: I was terminated from my job and this experience has opened up old feelings that I did not have since I was a “bad child in school in NJ”. I was a good employee with minor concerns in my writing skills but that was not the issue.
I want to know if I will recover from this experience. I am a heart transplant recipient and I need health insurance. I am angry, scared because I do not want to lose what I worked for.
Please advise.

I was born with Saturn in 05 degrees Virgo in my 12th house and Virgo ascendent 09 degrees. My last Saturn return brought a lot of soul searching, but ended with a good outcome. My natal Saturn is very well positioned with a trine to my moon in Taurus and Jupiter in my fourth house. As you might imagine, I am a worrier and my health hasn’t been great – low energy and extreme anxiety. Since I have Saturn pretty much on my ascendent, this planet has been important in my life – but, nothing comes that easily. Can I expect some relief now that Saturn is finishing it’s journey in Virgo?

Molly, thank you for creating such an amazing site. My sun and rising sign are in Virgo; I have fab Virgo friends. We’ve all been unemployed for ages (laid off), but continue to work hard on any opp; are often left unpaid (everyone wants our help for free). We are all trying not to be jaded. Only my romantic life under Saturn became lovely; everything else is debt (providing huge $$ for relatives for years, leaving me with nothing for my life now; they are all doing find now, oddly). Is it okay to try new work, as some opps beckon that we’ve worked for in our spare minutes? And, how will I survive with my Venus in Libra soon? (agh more Saturn..) Bdate: Sept 1, 1957 Chicago. Thanks!!

Hi Mimi – living with Saturn is like lifting weights. It’s heavy, but you come out stronger. I bet something you’re doing now will pan out in the future. Yes on the trying new things. (But pay attention to timing on important things like incorporating and signing contracts, major purchases.) Yes on cutting the deadweight. Good luck.

Michelle, Pisces…. sounds like it’s time to find something part time to see you through this rough patch. Focus on keeping your head above water right now. It doesn’t sound like the movies and other projects are going to pay off quickly enough, so find something stopgap that can pay the bills. The Saturn transit doesn’t have to be that bad… you just have to be realistic right now. Which is not typically a favorite mode for Pisces. But you can do it.

You make it happen with Saturn, so you must be realistic. Simplify your life and be proactive. You may have to work in a field not of your choosing for a while, to make ends meet. Good luck.

When does Saturn leave Virgo exactly – 29 October? Is there an exact time it moves on?
160 · Charlotte · 4 October 2009
Hello again Molly. I have Virgo Sun, Virgo Mercury, Leo Moon, Pisces rising (September 5, 1972). I commented the other day on how I had identified so much with the type of setbacks over the last couple of years or so which people had been talking about on here. I hadn’t realised these might be down to Saturn’s influence and have found it strangely reassuring that I have not been the only one to feel this way (not that I am exactly glad others have been having such a hard time too.)
I am trying to stay positive though I feel so lacking in energy just at the moment and to look at the lessons Saturn is giving me.
My real question is this though – I am now trying to grow up and settle down and am looking into buying my first real home of my own. Is it advisable to start going about it now or is it better to wait until Saturn has firmly established itself in Libra next year? I have found that Saturn in Virgo for me has meant several situations with all the appearance of being “the real thing” (mainly job, relationship) which made me feel secure and happy only to find that they were temporary and not really meant for me.
I just wondered if the fact that Saturn will go retrograde back into Virgo for a time means that there might still be more tough lessons ahead, and not to make any big decisions yet.
I would be so grateful for any general advice about what the retrograde movement signifies.
Thanks for reading this.

Amin, Amit, Prem. Your questions are very general and answering them would take some pretty in-depth research. I’m sorry but I don’t do general readings in the comments. If you would like to book an appointment, I would be happy to work with you. But this site is primarily a teaching site, not a free advice site. I tend to only answer specific questions about how the planets are working, and only if I get a sense that you are studying astrology and trying to learn.

Hi Molly,
I am an Aquarius, Cap rising. Moon in Cap.
My boyfriend is Virgo, Scorp rising, Moon in Pisces.
We got together November 2009ish, although, it was my idea. He seems like he likes the idea of us, but keeps pulling away, going silent, and he is finally admitting he doesn’t know why. We have good times, until he pulls away, then I question him (I know now I should resist that) and he shuts down!
Now Saturn is is leaving Virgo in July, should I take myself out of the picture totally for him, and move on until then, or should I pop in on him now and then? Are we doomed by the skies? I guess my ideas of our relationship and lessons will become clearer and clearer too. Any guidance?
