Sun square Mars in mutable signs
Posted under astrology
How are you doing today?

Not so good here at Casa de Node. Right around the time I was waking up, the Moon was getting ready to enter Sag and go mutable. And as I lifted my head off the pillow, the Sun in mutable Virgo was approaching a square to Mars in mutable Gemini and opposition to Pluto in mutable Sag. As I moved to pick my head up off the pillow, that simple act that I take for granted every day, my cervical spine went mutable. I heard a sound that reminded me of billiard balls knocking softly together, and a twinge of pain in my neck and back as a vertebra or two in my neck shifted into the wrong place.
Friends, the first word out of my mouth this morning was the F-WORD! That’s right, in all caps.
Yep, Mars is about conflict and anger, but he’s also the planet of injuries, pain and inflammation. And the F-word.
Did I mention that Saturn in mutable Virgo squares my natal Saturn in mutable Gemini this week? Saturn governs duty, discipline, structure and work. The square represents challenge. And Saturn governs bones too. My skeleton, my structure, my Saturn went wonky. Isn’t medical astrology fascinating?
A friend came by a couple of weeks ago, and we got to talking about health. We both have planets in the 6th house, which gives us an interest in the everyday, as well as delicate constitutions. So our conversations often end up in the 6th house. I told her about some stuff I was doing to strengthen my colon, and how it occurred to me I needed to be nicer to my body, show it more love, say thanks for doing a good job. Thank you, Colon, for doing your job. I appreciate what you do for me. Because I noticed I was getting angry at the parts that hurt— my head, my left hip, my colon, and taking them for granted when they do not hurt. That kind of neglect can’t be healthy.
How is your day going?

Thanks asanamama. The local library has a copy of the book, I put a hold on it. I appreciate the recommendation.

Hi there! Hope your back is better. I know that in my own case if i don’t consistently do yoga stretches a few times a week, my back locks up. The funniest time was when I could not get out of my car (I was only 42 – it was only two years ago). I think for me stress will center there – and I have to take the time to heal the stress – or at least release. My back locked up again for a week about 4 weeks ago. Things did not go better and loosen up till I was back to yoga again. I do know with Saturn in Virgo I am paying more attention to my health and I feel better. Loved your Saturn article you wrote as well. All the best to you!

Thanks Kathryn and Maria! I have the book asanamama mentioned, and so far it looks to be giving me a way of thinking about the back pain that makes a lot of sense, but that I hadn’t considered before. So that’s very good. I used to do quite a big of yoga, but I tend to overstretch and hurt myself. I attributed my last episode of massive shoulder/neck tweakage to poorly done yoga. That may or may not be correct. But I feel that I have to be so careful with yoga that I’m kind of spooked on it. :(

Dear Molly,
Having been a massage therapist for ten years, I highly recommend regular massages, especially in times of stress or overwork. Also heat—a heated mattress pad will keep you toasty and relaxed this winter!
Could you comment on the significance of the upcoming Pluto transit conjunction with Mars? My natal Mars is 0 degrees Capricorn in my 12th house, progressed is 7 Cap in 10th house. What can I expect?
Thanks very much for all your good work—we would be lost without you!

Thanks Abby. I do get massages as often as I can afford to. :)
Psychologically, Pluto represents pressures in your life that turn everything inside out. Pluto busts open your shells and exposes your soft parts. This can be painful, but it represents a time when you can let go of a lot of deeply buried stuff. Mars is anger.
As far as online interpretations go, I have been liking Curt’s at horoscope-x-files.com. Here’s his transit Pluto conjunct Mars.
