Texas has lost another great lady. I was so sad to hear that Molly Ivins died yesterday of breast cancer.

Ms. Ivins was a well known columnist throughout Texas, who regularly skewered Texas politicians, including Dubya, since he was a wee “Shrub,” back in the days before anyone could have imagined what he would become. She was brassy and bold, with a brilliant sense of humor that trapped those bastards in the crosshairs and left them nowhere to hide.

I met her once when I lived in Austin. It was a function for the homeless. Several people spent the night on the sidewalk outside a cafe on Congress Avenue, just south of the state capitol building. I was too shy to say more than hello to her, but I remember she was warm and kind as she sat leaning up against the building, chatting with some homeless folks.
