Dear Molly:I have a question concerning the order of my house positions. They seem to vary from what I have read is “normal”: 1rst&2nd in Virgo, 3rd in Libra, 4rth in Scorp., 5th is Capricorn, 6th is Aquarius, 7th&8th in Pisces, 9th Aries, 10th Taurus, 11th Cancer and 12th in Leo. Also, sometimes I get different info. using the same birth time (May 21,1984 12:30 PM Martinsville, IN), some sites say i have Virgo Ascending and others Leo...i go with Virgo because it has the ring of truth for me, but i am confused as to why i get different answers and why my houses are different than usual..is there any meaning or is it just random?
Thank you,
3 · Molly · 11 October 2005
Hi Cynthia-- your houses are not an "either or" situation.. one calculation is correct and one is not. The reason is usually that the wrong time zone was used. When I look up your birthdate in my software, I see that even though you were born in May, daylight savings time was not in effect where you were. Software with a good atlas will pick this up, but a lesser package would assume daylight savings was in effect and put your birthtime an hour earlier giving you Leo rising, which is incorrect. Virgo is correct. The same sign on two cusps in a row happens when you have what's called an intercepted sign. Google that term and you'll find a lot of info.

Dear Molly,What a great sight! I am so fortunate to have stumbled upon it! I have a question. Mars is now transiting my 12 house and will be doing so it seems until March 2006 which seems like an awfully long time. Its been very difficult and when I read the descriptions of the 12th house I get even more concerned. Any suggestions?
Thank you,

Hi Molly!
This is Sarah. I don't really know if you remember me or anything…I am the fourteen-year-old girl that asked you a question about the lunar nodes. Anyways, I got your message-thanks for responding!:) As you probably figured out by now, I am quite interested in the study of astrology-and I have been for quite some time now….Infact, I honestly think that I am totally OBSESSED with it-I read, think, eat, sleep and BREATHE astrology!!! EDITED... lots lots lots more that I answered privately.
Thanx

I am a Libra with Gemini rising and Gemini moon. Birthday is Oct. 15, 1973 – Fairfield, CA. I discovered that I’m a Capricorn North Node in the 7th house. And, well, that confuses me because Capricorn NN is like business, busy busy busy, me me me, SUCCESS! DO WHATEVER IT TAKES – GET OVER YOURSELF. But the 7th house is not about ME anymore – so… how would you suggest I blend these two? I’ve always struggled a bit with time spent on me and time spent on family. I recently had a baby and so it’s more family than anything – and it does feel right.
PS – I had an epiphany a few years ago in 2001-2 after I got married… that life isn’t about me but about those close to me – and being there for them – and I’m surrounded by a very loving, non-drama, supportive family. I do have a tendency to second guess my choices in life – but I’ve learned that when you are on the right track with things… stuff just falls into place. Sort of a way of saying, “Yep, you’re doing good and your needs will be met.” I’m just very curious what your blend of the house and north node will be.
Thank you for your time!
10 · Molly · 22 February 2006
Hey Rebecca—
My nutshell answer is yes, do the Capricorn thing, honor your goals and ambitions, but don’t try to do it all alone. You need other people, and these relationships are also part of your karmic path.
Here’s my page on the Nodes if you haven’t seen it.
p.s. Miss Sarah, I e-mailed you privately in response to your questions. Did you receive the e-mail?

Hi there Molly!
Your website rules. I have a question. My SUN, MERCURY, JUPITER and SATURN are all in my 3rd house. My Sun is sandwiched between Saturn & Jupiter. Could this be related to my love of computers & how I earn my income by doing computer work & design, as well as investing money online. It all just seems to come together easily for me. If I’m off-base, then what does having 4 planets in the 3rd house signify?
Thank you so much, Molly

Hi Molly,
I have a question about Pluto. I just found out its influence can remain in a person’s chart for 30 years.
For the past 30 years, until this Summer, everything went wrong. Dire poverty, bad marriages, problems with children and others, constant moving, jobs going poof! – absolutely everything, and continuously.
Since August things have been so much better.
Could my long bad spell have been the negative influence of Pluto in my chart? I was born 4-27-50 at 3:12am.
15 · Molly · 14 March 2006
Hi Jenny. I don’t really understand where you’re getting the Pluto thing. Transits of Pluto last between 1 and 2 years. Pluto transits a single house in your chart over the course of 10-20 years. So I’m not really seeing the connection.
I think as a Taurus, you get stuck in ruts. And with your Moon conjunct Saturn, you have a self-limiting tendency to boot. You are having a pretty major Uranus transit these days to that Moon-Saturn conjunction. Uranus transits wake us up and shake us out of old habit patterns. You have also had a major Pluto transit to a t-square in your chart.. serious business.. going on since.. you guessed it.. last year.
So my guess is, you finally stopped taking bull@#$! from other people and took control of your own destiny. Brava! And keep up the good work.

Hi Molly,
Love this site. Thanks for your great work. I would like your input on a special situation. Yesterday I accepted a position as admin assistant with a highly regarded representative, strong individual with 20+ of work experience in the financial industry. I only know of this person from the 2 job interviews we had which have lasted no more than 20 minutes at best.
I was able to obtain this person’s natal info and proceeded with synastry and composite midpoint. The composite chart is where I would like your input. Except Saturn (Taurus 3) and Neptune (Libra 8), ALL other planets are located in House 6 in Leo. Here are the personal details:
Me: Born June 16, 1966 @ 22:50 -5GMT, 45n34, 73w31 (Montreal, Canada)
Him: Born September 21, 1944 @ 18:45 +2GMT, 30n03, 31e15 (Cairo, Egypt)
Am I right in thinking this is just an amazing configuration for a professional relationship in which I am assisting this individual? Or will 7 planets conjonct in same house create such a energy filed atmosphere that close work will be impossible?
Thank you so much. Your input will be really helpful.

Hi Sylvie—
Sorry if this is a disappointing answer, but giving you the out look on your career is a complex art, and so is comparing your chart to your new boss’s chart. I wouldn’t be doing you a service if I tried to do a “quickie” for you here in the comments. If you would like for me to have a look at the charts and let you know what I think, I’d be glad to book a session with you. Details are here.

Hi Molly
I am proplexed by the fact that while the planets move clockwise on the wheel the houses lay counterclockwise.
Can you shed any light on this?
21 · Molly · 8 May 2006
Hi Trisha—
The houses change according to the earth’s rotation on its axis. During the course of the day, planets will move backwards through the houses. the 12th house just after sunrise, the 7th at sunset.
As the Sun appears to move across the horizon during the course of the day, in a counterclockwise direction, it moves one notch through the Zodiac (the backdrop) clockwise.
I hope this makes sense. It’s hard to visualize unless you grasp the fact that your frame of reference is spinning much faster than the planets around it are moving.
22 · Harriet · 2 June 2006
What does it mean for planets to be in ‘midheaven’?
Thanks
23 · Molly · 5 June 2006
Hi Harriet—
The Midheaven, also called the MC, is the 10th house cusp. It has to do with your career and calling.
If you’re reading an older astrology text, “in the Midheaven” means in the 10th house. “In the ascendant” means in the 1st house.

You can find all this out by getting a computer generated copy of your chart. I posted instructions on this page. You must have an accurate birth time to determine your ascendant.
26 · Moonchild · 28 June 2006
Hi Molly!
Your site is a big help to me! I’m astrologically-challenged, so I hope this isn’t a dumb question. What is the significance of having one’s sun in the first house? Is it because I was born near sunrise? Or near the solstice? Or some such? Does it mean I’m a “double-Sag”? Is that why I “think too much”? = )
27 · Uncle Hannah S-Q · 28 June 2006
(this is taken from http://www.elysian.co.uk/thesun.htm)
Sun in 1st House: If the sun is in the first house, it is often the case that the sun sign and Ascendant sign will be the same, making someone a ‘double Virgo’ or whatever. In this case, the whole chart will be dominated by the influence of that sign, which should be taken into consideration when judging anything else in the chart. The individual with a first house sun is likely to be energetic and assertive, competitive and self-absorbed, perhaps tending towards unwitting selfishness. This is an important placing for the health, which is usually robust.
28 · Molly · 30 June 2006
Moonchild, is that you? Long time no see!
The eastern horizon at birth becomes the first house cusp. So having the Sun just below the first house cusp (in the first house) corresponds to being born just before sunrise.
The rising sign is you on the job interview. The Sun sign is you on the job. If your Sun sign is the same as your Rising sign, then what you see is what you get. And people with Sun in the first tend to be more straightforward, less likely to hide.
I explain doubles and triples here. Having the Sun and Ascendant both in Sag does make you a double Sag.
Blessings!

34 · Molly · 6 August 2007
Antonio,
To me, a lot of planets stacked in one house shows the importance of that issue in your life. 2nd house being values and self worth. Saturn Uranus and Neptune all in one house is quite special.. Saturn shows you’re responsible and like structure. Uranus shows that you’re independent and like to tear things up every now and then. Neptune shows that as responsible and structured as you are, there’s always an element of chaos there, you have to be flexible and go with the flow at times. And you should choose very carefully how you are going to make your living. I think you have an unconventional path before you, and the more you embrace it, the happier you will be in life. And you should learn about money. You might start by reading Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad series. So many of us end up being slaves to money. But you don’t have to if you play it smart now, while you’re still young.

Dear Molly,
According to a number of calculations
I´ve done a have the ascendant in the sign of Leo. But the characteristics don´t really fit and in fact I have no typical leo traits and I think my personality would rather fit into sensitive cancer rising (I have cancer on my 12th house cusp and chiron in cancer aswell, so could this cancer energy affect my chart and the ascendant particulary in such a way).
I´m 100 sure both my birth time and calculations are accuarate. How is this possible ?
Thank you very much in advance
Eva
36 · Molly · 6 October 2007
Eva, the chart doesn’t lie. There may be other things in the chart to explain your sensitivity. Or there may be flaws in the interpretations you have read, or flaws in your understanding of the sign (Leo is often misunderstood), but there are no flaws in astrology. If you have done the calculations correctly and your birth time is accurate, then your ascendant is Leo. If you want to get the most out of astrology, you have to trust what's in the chart. You can't try to shape the chart to who you think you are. The planets don't care who you think you are. :)
When I got my chart for the first time, I expected to see lots of water signs, because I'm so sensitive. It turned out that I have no water signs in my chart at all. I didn't understand it, but the more I learned about astrology, the more I understood the difference between fire sign sensitivity and water sign sensitivity. Translating the symbols into English is tricky. You might not get it just from reading astrology websites. There are many good sites, but there's also a lot of garbage on the web. You would probably get a lot more understanding by getting into some of the good books.

hi molly! great site!! this may sound a little weird, but i know that saturn is now in virgo till oct 2009 and there are 12 houses .. just wanted to know does each house represent 2 months each over the 12 year period or does the house cycle repeat itself the second year??
thanks so much!
38 · Molly · 7 October 2007
Hi Susy— none of the above. Saturn’s cycle is roughly 29 years. This 2 1/2 year trip through Virgo is 1/12 of that cycle. It covers one sign and roughly one house of your chart.
39 · Heidi · 24 October 2007
Hi Molly,
I’ve been studying astrology for a few years and I’ve always heard alot about the pluto square pluto transit. I am experiencing this transit now. My pluto is in my 5th house and I am expecting my first baby in about 5 weeks. I lay awake at night worried that something might be wrong with the baby. Some astrology articles say that pluto 5th house people can have babies with deformities. I’d really appreciate anything that you could tell me that would help me be less anxious about the birth of my first baby? I’m born 30th Dec 1970, 2.48pm Manly Sydney Australia.
40 · Molly · 24 October 2007
Those kinds of interpretations really bother me. Heidi, ANYONE’s baby can be born with a deformity. Regardless of what’s in their 5th house, or what Pluto is doing.
Pluto is where we meet our Shadow selves. With Pluto in the 5th, you meet your shadow self through your creativity and also through your relationship with your child. If you have done your shadow work, you have nothing to be afraid of. If not, this is a great time to get in therapy. The dark side of Pluto is repression. The light side is healing. You’ll get much better results if you choose healing, but you have to work for it. LEt go of the past, Heidi. Insist on a better life for you and your child. Good luck and congratulations!!

Hi Molly,
I am interested in your input concerning the placement and impact of venus, mars, and jupiter in my eleventh house and all in the sign of Gemini. Additionally, when it comes to romance I find myself confused (conflicted). Yes, this is a sexuality inquiry. I’ve read that certain planets, including venus and I think Pluto and aspects involving these planets could cause a streak of homosexuality or bisexuality. At this point, and at age 30, I really don’t know where I stand on Kinsleys scale, so I was hoping you could open a window of insight by interpreting at least the romance/sex details of my chart. Dolly
43 · Molly · 26 December 2007
Dolly, there has been a lot of inquiry into the idea that sexual orientation can be read in the chart. And it really seem to be genetic rather than astrological. Certain placements may indicate someone who is more willing to embrace something outside the mainstream (AHEM uranus AHEM), but there are an awful lot of straight Uranians to disprove any theories that something in your chart “causes” you to be gay or straight. I hope this helps.

Hi Molly, just wondering if you could help. I am a Taurus, May 11, 1959, Gemini Rising. Mercury is in Mercury my 11th house with my Sun in Taurus my 12th. I seem to be a “duo” personality. Great at parties, talkative, charismatic, personable but on the other hand I can be very much a loner and love my personal space. I can cut myself off from people for long periods of time. I am very interested in dreams and have very detailed and vivid ones. This seems to correspond with my chart from what I have read. Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

I have always been obsessed, curious, worried about my Mars in Leo in the 12th house next to my north node. Leo Rising. Scorpio sun in my 3rd house.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Molly,
This is a great site to really start understanding astrology and how it works. I have my chart and I am trying to read it, but I’m a little confused.
The cusp of my first house is in Libra (8 degrees), which is what it tells me (although when I count the little lines it looks like 1 degree). I look at the thick horizontal line for this info correct(to find ascendant)? After that there are no planets or numbers or anything. I read that you said if there is no planets under that house that you are normal in that house and there are no problems. But then how would no planets describe my character attributes?
I feel like I was missing a point somewhere b/c I’m not getting it.
Right after the second cusp(which is also touching Libra), there is a Pluto sign, 08 degrees, a Scorpio sign, a 34 and a retrograde symbol. Would this be considered under my second house, which is Scorpio, or the second house is determined where the cusp layed before it(which would be Libra)? Would I interpret that by saying Pluto which represents power is what influences my sense of values and priorities for example?
Ah, I hope what I wrote made any sort of sense to you.. If you are able to clear up some of this confusion that would really be appreciated =]
Here is my info, in case it would be easier to look at it to see what I’m asking:

Thank you!
47 · Molly · 6 March 2008
When there are no planets in the house, you interpret the house by the sign on the cusp and the ruler of that sign. So you would look at Venus for Libra.
And yes, sounds like you have Pluto at 8 degrees Scorpio. Your interpretation is a good starting point.
Good luck,

What true meaning does this hold? Does this make me more Sagitarrius? I am just trying to understand my chart a lot better. Thank you
What true value does this hold and how can I relate it to a career that I should pursue. Everything I think of is boring. :(

58 · Alexandria · 23 September 2008
Nice article and interpretations. I would like some clarification, though. My Sun is located in the 2nd house. However, it’s right towards the end – around 2-3 degrees from the 3rd house. I’ve read chart reports and seen that sometimes my Sun is automatically placed in the 3rd house instead of the 2nd. If I have planets that are right at the end or beginning of a house, would that planet have influence over both houses it touches/ or just one either of the ones involved?
59 · Molly · 25 September 2008
Alexandria, conventional wisdom is that a planet just a few degrees away from the cusp of the next house should be read as being in the next house. In reality, there is little agreement among astrologers on how house cusps (except for the angles) should be calculated. This tells me the boundaries are not cut-and-dried. They are fuzzy. So I consider such a planet to be in the fuzzy area between houses, and take that into consideration.

Alexandria, I have a question. There aren’t any planets or signs in my 3rd, 4th and 5th houses. There isn’t anything actually. Is this bad?

hey Molly,
I just did a composite chart with someone I am interested in dating. We are just friends(actually co-workers)right now but I feel a strong “pull” towards him and when we talk we literally cannot stop talking and opening up to each other. I get a sense we will be dating soon enough. We both have Scorpio rising and our charts are similar ( a lot of planets in the 11th, 12th and 1st, 2nd for both of us). My concern is that most of our planets are in the 12th house in the composite. According to what I’ve read so far this is not such a good thing! I am a bit scared. Is there a positive side to so many planets in the 12th in a composite chart? (I think we have Pluto, the Sun-which is almost in the 1st house, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter in there if I am not mistaken), our moon is in the 5th house though. :) what do you think, can a 12th house relationship work?

Honestly, Julie, I don’t have much use for composite charts. I get far more mileage out of synastry.

I’ve got.
Pluto, Uranus, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter = 4th House.Sun = 5th Neptune = 6th Mars = 8th Moon = 9th
Saturn = 11th. What does this mean please?

Hi Molly im very interested in astrology but at the same time i happen to be very dense.
If Sag is on the cusp of the 7th house, and Uranus and Neptune are in my 7th House what does it mean?
68 · Ren · 23 September 2009
Hello Molly,
Again, your site rocks. (smile). Compatibility question: What does it suggest when 2 people have opposite signs in each of the 12 Houses?
For example:
Taurus vs Scorpio (Rising)
Scorpio vs Taurus (in VII)
etc.
Aries vs Libra (in 12)
69 · Molly · 30 September 2009
Ren, I am not getting anything. Only having houses is like watching a play without any of the actors, musicians, directors present, only the set. The planets are where it’s at.

Hi Molly,
Great site you have here! Sorry to add on to the list of questions here, hope you don’t mind me asking =)
1. Is it unfavourable to have Sun in Aquarius in 7th house?
2. My 2nd house is empty and at cusp of Leo. Since Sun is the ruler of the 2nd house, is it related to the 7th house?
I’ve been reading about this wherever i could find but all I could gather was Sun is in detriment in Leo, which doesn’t sound very good. Hope you could enlighten me by answering these two questions, if you have the time. Thanks a bunch!
71 · Molly · 8 November 2009
1. No
2. I have no idea given the info you provided.
The Sun is in rule in Leo. Even planets in detriment are fine, it’s just about developing more awareness to work with them.

Hi Molly,
Great explanation on houses.
Can you please tell me if I can interpret signs the same way as houses? For example, when Mercury changes sign from Scorpio to Sagittarius in Secondary Progression, can I interpret as there could be foreign travel (because of Sagittarius and Mercury is at 0 degrees in Sagittarius)?
Regards
Ram

Hi Molly.
I’m abit confussed on the placement of houses and rising sign, usually the signs in the houses follow the ascendent. However my chart shows: 1 house (ascendent) sagittarius,2 capricorn,3 pisces,4 aries,5 taurus,6 gemini,7 gemini,8 cancer,9 virgo,10 libre,11 scorpio and 12 sagittarius again. I was wondering if the 12 house would restrict my ability to show my ascendent. I wouldnt say that im outwouldly confident, optimistic and everything discribed by my rising sign and I have problems being just that, but im rather shy and quite until I feel safe. Also some of my house placements are usually found in capricorn ascendent so I was wondering if that would effect my own ascendent.

Hello Molly,
My name is Molly. My birth date is May 20 1983, 1631 pm. I was born in India. I have both pluto and saturn in my 12th house. I read somewhere that it is very bad to have such combo. I am in the last phase of 7 1/2 years of shani. I feel lost and going no where. I just cant help to think that whatever my intentions are I just end being used and hurt. I hope you can shed some light so that I can decide to fight any more or just accept my fate. Please respond
Regards,
Mouli

I hate to sound annoyed about this, but I am sick to death at having every other chart or so list all my Leo planets in the 12th House, while all the other charts I have done list all my Leo planets in the 1st House. Strangely enough, I tend to related to both! But maybe I’m relating to the issues of the 1st House representing to the fact that I am Leo Rising. I identify with my Leo planets being in the 12th House, perhaps, because my Saturn is (clearly) in the 12th House and I have Saturn in Cancer (in the 12th House) Conjunct my Leo Ascendant. This is driving me nuts and I certainly wish I could, once and for all have an accurate reading of which houses my Leo planets (Sun, Mercury & Pluto) are in. By the way, recently I read where there is an issue with daylight savings time not being in affect throughout the entire United States in 1946—my birth year. (7/31/1946 – 5:48 a.m. – Wilmington, Delaware.) I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I have no planets in the first five houses or the eighth & ninth houses. Does this mean I will have difficulty with those traits?

Hi Molly,
Congratulations and thanx for the brilliant style of explaining about houses. Been looking for such a wise way of explaining about the houses. At last my search has come to an end.
Thanx again

Hi, I have a book on creating my own chart and interpreting it but it doesn’t explain what happens when there is no planet in a house. What do I do? Do I then read the planet that is assigned to my sun sign? Or do I simply not have one?
84 · hallie · 22 May 2010
I have aquarius in my 8th house. Is this bad? I’ve read alot of things that mention that those with this in their 8th house die in a sudden and unusual way.

Hi Molly,
My boyfriend has Pisces in his 7th House. [Sun Scorpio, Ascendant Virgo, Venus in Libra].
I am aware that 7th House relates to relationships and mutable signs suggest duality in love life.
Does that suggest he should be expecting to marry twice in his life? We are moving towards a serious relationship! Should I be worried?
I discovered this site just today and am very keen to be a loyal follower! Thank you so much!
