Molly's Astrology for March 2010
Mars Direct
Get ready to cue the Hallelujah Chorus– The long Mars retrograde period ends on March 10!
Mars has been retrograde in bossy Leo, and since February has been within 2 degrees of a sextile with responsible Saturn in Libra. This sextile hangs on through late March. Sextiles represent opportunity. Saturn is a planet of reward and consequence. This sextile with enterprising Mars signals good things coming to those who already have their ducks in a row. Especially if you have the kind of take-charge attitude that Mars in Leo supports. Hopefully you have used Mars retrograde to strengthen your foundation. Now you can move forward with a new enterprise or endeavor, or make a commitment to working for a better future.
The Saturn Pluto square and “translation of light”
Saturn is retrograde and separating from a square to inflexible Pluto. This is a marker of extreme stress. This month, we have a few planets moving through and touching off the square. We call this “translation of light.” It is as if the faster planet picks up the the energy of one slower moving planet and carries it to the other, waking up the energy of the square.
Mark these dates on your calendar— First Venus opposes Saturn and squares Pluto, March 8-11: Issues in relationships. Then Mercury opposes Saturn and squares Pluto, March 17-19: issues in communications and commerce. Finally, the Sun translates the light of the square, March 21-25: issues with leadership and creativity.
We do have an outlet for these three planets moving through this sticky piece of sky at the beginning of Aries, and that is Mars in Leo. Mars in a compatible sign points to an area where things are moving, opportunity to take a cue from whatever is aggravating you and create something new and exciting that solves a key problem. Mars is action and initiative. So this is a time when you can learn from what hasn’t been working for you. Do the things that you wouldn’t have done without this stress. The world is changing, and this creates opportunities for smart people to help others transition from the past to the future.
With so many planets in the early degrees of their signs in March, we are in new and unfamiliar territory, finding our groove. Figuring out where we go from here. So decide carefully. If you aren’t feeling things click into place, give it some time. Don’t force it.
March 1-7
March 1-3, skies are pretty clear and good for getting things done and exploring new ideas and new approaches. Especially Wednesday as Venus conjoins Uranus in Pisces. Face the truth of your feelings and the reality of your relationship issues head-on. This is a great night to talk it out, as long as you steer clear of the Moon v/c period from about 4-9 pm eastern time.
The weekend has a nice, high energy vibe as Venus moves into Aries and trines Mars. A good weekend to catch a game or play a friendly match of your own. With the Moon in fiery Sagittarius, warmer weather is not necessarily a given, but the Sag Moon loads the deck in favor of it.
March 8-14
Venus moves on to oppose hardworking Saturn in Libra, which reins in our plans and our spending on Monday and into Tuesday. It’s a good day to be on the buying side of a negotiation, not so great for sellers, as Saturn holds down the price (Venus). But please be careful signing any big deals. Especially if there is a loan (Pluto) involved. Deeper issues in relationships may come to light as well, as Venus translates the light of the Saturn-Pluto square (see above).
As Mars turns direct, we may experience a whoosh! of positive energy as pent up tension and frustration releases and gives way to forward movement. Finally!
The Moon is on the wane this week, a more settled, calm energy that gradually peters out as we get closer to the new Moon on Monday. During the last few days of the Lunar cycle, our time is best spent making plans for the coming cycle.
March 15-22
The new Moon in Pisces opens the door on another new cycle. This is the best time of the month to give up a bad habit. Withdrawal symptoms are far less severe during the first day or two of the Lunar cycle. The Pisces new Moon favors seeds and intentions that are “planted” that relate to spirituality and healing, developing intuition, art and creativity, and efforts to develop compassion and overcome self-defeating tendencies. It favors removing toxins from your life on all the levels. Toxic substances, toxic attitudes and beliefs, toxic relationships.
As Mercury and the Sun roll past Uranus on Monday and Tuesday, you can shake things up a bit. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Uranus often ramps up our nervous energies. If you feel like jumping out of your skin, try stepping out of your routine a bit, even if it’s only to check out a new place for lunch.
On Wednesday, Mercury moves into Aries and begins the translation of light dynamic that we saw with Venus last week. Something new and exciting may come your way on Wednesday as Mercury trines Mars. Then practical Saturn enters the picture on Thursday and Friday. Saturn does not deny the goodies in life, but it does test your commitment to doing what you have to do to have them.

The Sun enters Aries on Saturday. The Vernal Equinox— Spring is here, at last! Sunday is a great day to tackle physical work, as the Aries Sun lines up with high energy Mars and hardworking Saturn. Monday is great, too. As the waxing Moon builds momentum, it’s a wonderful day to launch a new project.
And happy Fall Equinox to my friends down undah.
March 23-31
Tuesday through Thursday, the Sun carries the light from Saturn to Pluto, re-invoking the tension of the square, especially on Thursday afternoon and evening. Easy does it— listen more than you talk on this day, and choose your battles carefully.
The weekend is easygoing, good for gatherings and creative work, as the Moon waxes to Full in social Libra, and Venus and Mercury both approach a sextile to dreamy Neptune. This energy lends itself better to broad brush strokes than to detailed work, although the weekend’s Virgo Moon may have us looking for that ever-elusive perfection. Know when to call it good enough and move on!
Monday through Wednesday are good for creative work, troubleshooting, relationship building, and brainstorming as the Mercury Neptune sextile becomes exact.
Mark your Calendar!
The best days for your top priority plans are March 3, 4, 7, 17, 20-22, 26, 29, 31.
Easy does it on March 1, 2, 8, 11, 15, 18, 19, 23, 25.

I have Saturn Retrograde in Libra in my 7th house. How does this Saturn Retrograde in Libra affect someone with the same aspect in their chart? What should I do to be the best person I can be ask this unfolds?

hallelujah! thanks for your insight molly. i don’t think i’d survive my senior thesis with mars in retrograde the entire semester. everytime i think i have my head above water i start sinking again! one delay after another.
this month, i’m getting responses from the graduate schools i applied to. and as a libra, i’m hoping saturn is good to me!

Hi Molly – thanks again for the monthly insight – must look into getting a personal chart done one of these days – hmmm, which days were good for planning stuff again?! ;-)

Thank you, Adele. March 15-17 look good for an astrological planning session. I think I have some times open then. Go to my consultations page and click the red “Appointments” tab to see my available times.

Good luck with your thesis, Bethany. Typically retrogrades favor going over what you already have, see if your plan needs any revising. It’s not well suited to moving forward. But things will straighten out soon enough. Next week we get a big release of Mars energy, that should pick up the pace.

I felt a distinct shift March 9th and 10th. Looked
in the ephemeris and saw that Mars had turned direct.
I’m Aires rising; so it made sense to me. Since the
10th, I’ve had energy again, lots of floating anxiety
is gone. Seems to be going to be a good period. Did I learn anything in particular during the retrograde of Mars? It reinforced that Zen saying that: This too shall pass. And good, bad, whatever, it always does — pass. Astrology and insight from people like you help me keep from overreacting to stress during difficult aspects like this Mars retroduce.
Thanks.

Thanks for always enlightening us. Your website carries a positive note and direction. What happens to the beginning of the month… am I looking for April before its time? Again, Molly, thank you.
