Mars retrograde January 23 – April 14

Every 2 years, Mars appears to slow down, then move backwards for about 80 days. When this happens, our physical energy is lower, projects tend to drag, and machines break down. We are more irritable and frustrated than usual. We get hung up on details. It is a time to gather strength and resources, a time to plan but not to launch a complicated new project. New initiatives are tricky right now. The better use of this time is to wait, plan, and accept delays and compromises. Delays and detours may turn out to be valuable, as you discover something of importance along the way. The one who initiates a conflict tends to lose during Mars retrograde.

Neptune moving into Pisces

Neptune in Pisces
“The entry of Neptune in to Pisces symbolizes the fusing of the spirit with its higher self, the melding into the sea of consciousness. This is the link to the source, and is a symbol of enlightenment.”

The final degrees of any sign are transitional— you’re in an old cycle, bringing things to completion, getting ready to move on to something new. Neptune represents our sensitivity to the subtle energies around us, our connection to Spirit and psychic energy, creative inspiration, hopes, dreams, and fears. Neptune takes about 160 years to circle the Zodiac. So moving into a new sign is a big deal! More on this in February.

Saturn trine Neptune… almost

Neptune is currently still in Aquarius, a social sign having to do with communities and groups. Saturn is at the end of Libra now, another social sign. Saturn represents business and the so-called real world. The trine aspect between them should bring about an easy blending of the practical with the mystical.

However, Saturn changes direction before the trine is exact. This is called a “refranated” aspect, and may show up as some promising encounter that doesn’t pan out. Pay attention to who and what shows up in your life at this time. If nothing comes of it now, you may get another shot when the Saturn Neptune trine completes in October.

Mercury touches the Saturn Neptune trine as he heads from Sagittarius into Capricorn, January 6-7. A collegial vibe and a good day to write, plan, and speak your truth.

There’s a surprise as Mercury enters Capricorn on the 8th and immediately forms 2 aspects— square Uranus and trine Jupiter— both planets of freedom. Uranus in Aries is a surprise, something fast and explosive. The trine to Jupiter in Taurus means resources are available, and also that you can get your point across with humor. You’ll see the silver lining, once the smoke clears.

Venus transits the trine January 12-13 on the way into Pisces. Reach out to others for mutual benefit.

Near the end of the month, Saturn draws close to an inconjunct with Uranus— sudden shifts and changes of plan jangle our nerves.
